Bio

A calm, non-judgmental ear, here to listen and support.

My style is peaceful, kind, and curious. I’ll meet you where you are, without judgment. We can talk about stress and anxiety, life transitions (moving, school/career changes), relationship communication, self-esteem, motivation/procrastination, creative blocks, and perfectionism.

Our chats are a space to slow down, feel heard, and sort through what’s heavy. I use active listening and validation. I’ll never diagnose or tell you what to do. I’ll ask gentle questions so your own voice can get a little louder.

Critical Thinking Activities You Participate In?

...See more Under the second dimension of the Inner Development Goals framework is THINKING - Cognitive Skills. I want to focus on the skill of critical thinking. The article in our pathway reading ‘Tips to Boost Your Cognitive Skills’ described critical thinking as: The ability to carefully examine and assess the credibility of viewpoints, evidence, and plans by applying rigorous analysis. Discussion Questions:  * One of the tips mentioned was to participate in debates or discussions. What kind of critical thinking activities do you participate in? * How do you think critical thinking activities improve your ability to set goals and make important life decisions?  My response:  * I participate in debates and discussions through my book clubs. I have two book clubs that meet online with friends, one that focuses on non-fiction books and one for fiction. I love underlining or highlighting the books I read to find evidence for the points I make and to take the time to make an opinion on the book before discussing it with the group. A lot of the time the other members of the group will bring up points I had never considered and I grow a lot from the discussions. I also enjoy watching movie critiques on YouTube which treat film as literature in my opinion. I try to gather my thoughts together by discussing a movie at a cafe afterward with friends and then see what my favorite YouTubers have to say about the movies. I could debate in the comment sections with others, but honestly I don’t.  * I think having experience analyzing other people’s arguments against my own about books and movies actually helps me to listen to my own inner compass when it comes to getting advice from others. I don’t just take what someone has to say about my decision or goal, I can be critical with the advice of loved ones that I do value, but know how to take what works and leave the rest.

Ikigai - Finding Purpose

...See more I have seen Ikigai in a lot of places as a catch phrase and didn’t know what it really meant before this course. I wasn’t sure if it was connected to other concepts/philosophies like Japanese Zen, Chinese Feng Shui, or Nordic Hygge. I guess it is related in a way in that these ideas organise your thoughts and mental and physical space, while Ikigai is getting you focused on the meaning of what you are doing with your time. I think it falls under the first dimension of the Inner Development Goals framework for BEING - Relationship to Self, under the skill of finding your inner compass. The article in our pathway reading described it as:  Ikigai helps explore purpose by considering 4 main areas: Passion, Vocation, Mission, and Profession.  Discussion Questions: * Has your Ikigai changed over time?  * How easy is it for you to identify your Ikigai?        My response: * My Ikigai has changed a lot over time, as I feel like what the world needs and what you can get paid for has changed a lot over the last twenty years. As have my loves and strengths. I see that as a good thing. I can’t see myself staying in the same profession my whole life and even within my own profession I love change, different age groups I work with, different cultures, different cities to live in. The online world and social media has made so many more opportunities for entrepreneurship which is also really exciting. Or maybe my personal Venn diagram keeps getting bigger? * I am very grateful that it has been easy for me to identify my Ikigai. There are so many things I want to try and learn about! I think the piece I could dig deeper into is what the world needs, though.
