I don't belong in my school
Depression Support / by dancingthroughlife16

...See more I'm a junior in high school and I've been struggling with social anxiety and depression for my entire high school career. This year it's gotten so much worse. The academics are horrible; the classes are so unorganized and the teachers are always putting us down or trying to force their political opinions on us. I'm a straight A student, I'm in multiple AP classes, and I love to learn, but this is taking away all my enthusiasm and motivation. My grades aren't as stable as they have been in previous years. I don't fit in among the students, either. I'm a quiet person and I've sort of made peace with that, but I can't interact with anyone at all. I'm such an outsider, even in my group of friends and the activities I'm involved in. If I left, no one would be affected. I want to change schools so badly but my parents and therapists want me to learn how to cope and finish out the year before we change anything. But it's going to be so hard and painful. I can't study or do homework because thinking of school in any way hurts. I've tried making things better and they may improve for about a week but things always get worse again. I even cut myself for the first time this year. This school is taking away my will to live and I need to get out. I don't see how keeping me in a place that causes me so much misery is going to help me. I wish I could go someplace new, learn how to cope there, and start over. But I'm being forced to suffer here and I can't take it anymore.

Struggling to Speak
Anxiety Support / by dancingthroughlife16

...See more I've always been a quiet person who never had a lot to say, and my social anxiety has always made me feel ridiculous on the rare occasions when I do speak. Over the past year, however, the physical act of speaking has become difficult for me. It's like my vocal chords just don't want to work at all. Even if I do have something to say and I'm not nervous about saying it, I just can't get the words out. Does anyone else find it physically difficult to speak, even if you aren't feeling particularly anxious? What can I do about it?
