hii!! i'm so glad you're here! ♡
welcome under the night sky, where everyone is an awesome, shining star !!

a little about me ✧

𑣲 you can call me emily! i'm a student who wants to major in psychology. i'm also a bit new here, so sometimes i might take a moment to think of the best words to say, but believe me when i say i genuinely care about listening and being here with you (if something isn't working for you during our chat, please feel comfortable telling me! i'd genuinely like to know how i can be a better listener for you <3). i know how hard it is reaching out to friends or family, afraid of judgement or burdening them. and that's why you're here, and i'm really glad you are ♡︎

everyone has difficult nights. i'm here to be a little bit of light through one of them 𖤐

sometimes you don't need someone to fix everything; you just need someone to listen and understand. you don't have to have the perfect words or know exactly how you're feeling. you can just start wherever feels the easiest!! :)

my chats ✧
  • i am a high school student! so during weekdays, i am not available from 10PM to 4PM of the next day (EDT). some days i might be off or some days i will not be available outside of that time range due to outside activities (usually my status will let you know!) if you text me when my status is offline, please expect slow replies! i will see it and can reply to short messages but i most likely cannot do a full session. if my status is busy, i'm most likely already helping a member, and i'd prefer to have all my focus on them! if my status is online, i'll definitely be free for a live chat, so feel free to send me a message/request <3

  • i'll have 30 minute to 2 hour session depending on my availability; i will let you know at the start of the session or around the middle of it (you can ask if you want to know at the start). i'll give you around a 10-15 minute warning before i have to leave.

  • let me know if you'd like me to check in with you from time to time! i don't want to do it without permission in case you don't want to hear from me.

  • if you have specific requests, let me know at the start of the session! if you don't like how a session is going, let me know! tell me what you want and i'll do my best to tailor it to your needs and wishes.

  • i'd prefer if you have set time aside when conversing with me. so, please do not ghost me in between messages or anytime during the session. if you're able to, please let me know if you need to step away for a while so I know whether to keep the chat open. if i don't receive a reply within 30 minutes i'd assume you needed to close off and will end the session. if you'd like to chat again later, you're always welcome to request another session!

  • some topics are outside what i'm comfortable supporting with, so i may need to refer you to another listener if a conversation involves: anything sexual (ex. sexual assault, abuse, harassment), disorders with anosognosia, self-harm, any form of violence, alcohol/drug abuse. thank you for respecting these boundaries!

feel free to request a chat if you'd like someone to listen , you deserve to be heard ❤︎ have a beautiful day, my friend!

...See more hellooo my name is emily 💫 you can call me em/emi/emily/star !! i'm a newish listener on here and i'm soso excited to journey with you all! i never officially introduced myself here hehe so hiii! i've been here for around a month now and i've been loving this warm, inclusive community!! i'm so proud to be apart of it <33 i'm always working to be better so let me know how to improve ❤️‍🩹 i'm a high school student that is really interested in psychology and sociology and how we can make the world a better place. just starting from making a person smile is already making the world better 💗 seeing the negative parts of the word really sadden and frustrates me, but being here and knowing there's people out there who's so willing to give their time to help make someone's day gives me hope. i lovelove playing games (mainly overwatch 👀) and always like picking up new hobbies! (i'm learning the guitar rn, occasionally i play drums, skateboard, write, etc. i lwk dabble in everything). i have 2 cats that probably hate me :( , i lavv light colors (mainly pink) , comfort / romance shows (anime , kdrama , cdrama recs NEEDED omg) , cute things (i love my gaming setup rn) , and musiccc (yes im super up for recs hehe). so sad i barely get any time to work on my hobbies thoughh, i've been busy with schoolwork lately. check out my bio to know about the listener side of me 💖! "what's with your obsession with stars?" you may be wondering! i always liked to believe in wishes. they symbolize hope.. hope that even when things may not be in your control, it could work out in the end. and maybe wishing is the only thing you do control. hoping is the only thing you can truly control. so every 11:11, every eyelash, every star i gaze upon, i wish. i hope. i see the future that i may not fully control.. yet the one i always have hope in. even though my wishes never come true, the hope i hold onto that one day life will get better is what keeps me going. and i wish to share that hope with everyone, and keep them going even for just a day. okok sorry for the ramble i got a lil sentimental haha. thank you all for having me <3 i'll do my best here, honest. i can't wait to grow and help others grow. let's be friends yayyy! hit me with a message anytime !! 💞 "maybe we're all looking at the same star tonight, even in different parts of the world."  yours truly, emilystar 🌟

perseverance ; if a butterfly cannot find anymore pollen in a flower, should it stay or move on?

...See more perseverance is definitely one of my favorite concepts under the acting dimension of the inner development goals! in the IDG framework, perseverance refers to "the capacity to maintain engagement and commitment despite delays in the achievement of desired goals." however, i feel like perseverance gets portrayed in a way in which it seems inherently good, which i don't entirely agree with. while i absolutely understand that persevering through a struggle does teach many valuable lessons, there are instances when perseverance does not always mean that one should push forward. struggling to learn a challenging concept, training oneself to learn a certain skillset, forming connections with others, and pursuing a distant objective certainly require perseverance–patience in particular! there are moments when it is incredibly difficult to witness progress each day. however, i feel like the problem lies within this attachment towards believing that giving up means admitting defeat. the world does not stand still for anyone. there are going to be days when you must adapt and move along since circumstances dictate that your original goal was not meant to be anymore. this is where i struggle to define perseverance. it makes me realize how perseverance might not function alone and needs the help of other IDG skills. knowing ourselves is important because sometimes self-awareness lets us understand what drives us to persevere with our actions. critical thinking allows us to understand if we use the appropriate strategy in our endeavors and helps evaluate them objectively. an internal guidance system allows us to assess if the thing we work towards matches our moral and ethical views. perseverance could mean continuing; however, it also implies taking different ways towards achieving one’s goal. sometimes there lies this big distinction between "i haven't made it yet" and "this isn't working anymore," which i believe should become a significant step in growing up personally <3 discussion questions !! * how would you know whether it is healthy or not to persevere?   * does quitting one’s goal sometimes imply perseverance of something bigger? perseverance skills are part of the values taught in the inner development goals course, you can learn more about more such values in the course here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/academy/AcademyPrograms_2311/InnerDevelopmentGoalsCourse_318284/]. the butterfly searches for flowers with pollen, but when a flower has none, it knows when to move on rather than continuing to stay. like the butterfly, we may need to recognize when something no longer has what we need and have the perseverance to keep searching rather than remain where we cannot grow. ~ thank you!

perspective ; is it a 6 or is it a 9?

...See more perspective skills are a part of the thinking category in the inner development goals framework. the definition of perspective is “seeking, understanding, and actively utilizing insights from differing perspectives.” i think that's such an interesting aspect of this particular skill—just because we look at things differently than somebody else doesn't automatically make us incorrect. everybody goes about life from their backgrounds, experiences, beliefs, feelings, knowledge, et cetera. it makes sense to say then that the same scenario could happen to two different people and be understood completely differently by those individuals! so many times we just assume that “this is what happened” but honestly, it's our interpretation of what happened. i found this to hold even more weight during conflict. it can feel good to argue until everything we stand for wins out. however if the goal is truly understanding the scenario, then listening to others' perspectives could provide information that we were completely unaware of. but that's also not to say that you must accept every single opinion out there. you can be attentive listeners, examine reasoning, and come to the conclusion that they're simply incorrect! perspectives skills also correlate with humility. if i accept my own perspective to be limited, this allows me to approach situations with curiosity rather than thinking i already know everything. additionally, the ability to empathize can relate since understanding others’ perspectives helps explain why someone feels or thinks differently. however, while accepting multiple perspectives is important, this does not necessarily imply we should adopt all claims nor abandon our own principles and morals. it simply requires us to critically evaluate our own assumptions and willingness to change our minds once confronted with new ideas and perspectives! (this sounds simple but can be extremely challenging to apply!) to me, perspective-taking is less about changing my views and opinions and more about ensuring that i’ve explored what i may not have considered yet before deciding on any opinion <3 discussion prompts !! * has there been an experience where someone’s perspective complicated or altered how you understood a certain situation? * how do we remain receptive toward opposing viewpoints without adopting them as true? perspective skills are part of the values taught in the inner development goals course, you can learn more about more such values in the course here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/academy/AcademyPrograms_2311/InnerDevelopmentGoalsCourse_318284/]. is it a 6 or is it a 9? i'm on one side and insist it's a 6 because i see it as so, yet you're on the other side and insist it's a 9 because you see it as so. there is no wrong or right in this situation—only perspective and interpretation. ~ thank you!
