67 year old recent retiree from academia due in large large to chronic illnesses. 37 year career culminated in 14 years as graduate school dean.
Had two head injuries, 1974 and 2013; the first triggered major depression and eventually bipolar disorder. The second triggered hearing loss and significant increase on cognitive load. Recently diagnosed with bradyphrenia, a slowing of cognitive function due in large part to all my meds.
Had spinal cord tumor removed in 2020, 2nd spinal cord surgery in 2023. Require walker which limits mobility and activities.
My wife of 40 years and have been through a lot, including her own issues. I think I am well-equipped to be a empathetic listener.
