Exploring neurodivergence with my school counsellor

...See more My counsellor suggested that we explore the possibility of me having neurodivergence in my sessions with him. From a young age I was seen as a weirdo/freak and bullied heavily throughout lower/higher school because I play football (soccer) with the boys so it made me a target as I didn’t fit in with societal norms. I had difficulty with peers/teachers/family felt anxious/overwhelmed/depressed in school/home all the time and got into fights and always felt the need to explain my self. During the Easter holidays, I’ve been researching more about autism and find my experiences resonating with this community. It’s sent me into a bit of a spiral contemplating whether if I am or not autistic. I’m in my final year of secondary school and he says there’s no point getting a diagnosis because waiting lists are too long on the NHS. I don’t want my parents involved but they would need to be in order for me to be diagnosed. Should I stick to in school support or push for a referral for a diagnosis knowing the consequences it would have on my relationship with my family? How would I go about exploring neurodiversity with my counsellor without coming across as knowing “too much” idk if that’s the right way to explain it.
