Birthday let down
Relationship Stress / by jollygoodsometimes

...See more Yesterday was my birthday. Each year, there seems to be some sort of drama that sprouts around it, whether it be friends, family, or my relationship. This year, I got Covid and one of my best friends thought I was lying about my quarantine dates and told mutual friends about how “selfish” I am, when my dates and instruction where given to me by our school’s health services. I never lied about anything. Once I got out, she gave me the cold shoulder and ignored me up until I reached out and asked her why she had been ignoring me. Now that it’s the day after my birthday she’s acting like everything is normal. My boyfriend forgot it was my birthday for a little bit of the day. We talked about it and he apologized and I accepted. He had his first TA job of the semester so I knew he was stressed about that. A few weeks ago he was telling me how he had ordered my birthday gift and I told him I didn’t really need anything. He asked me if I was sure and I said “well, maybe flowers. I love flowers”. He ended up taking me out to dinner but I was sort of surprised about the lack of anything else. I’m not sure if that is selfish of me. I think I’m so caught up about it because I made his birthday a national Holiday in our friends’ eyes, while he almost forgot mine. I’m not sure how to go about it. I just feel like I was pushed to the side on the one day of the year that is supposed to be fun
