What is dating for?

...See more I’m 26, and for years now I have been trying to understand what the purpose of dating is. I search the internet and have conversations with friends and nobody can help me understand why people put up with each other. The word relationship is terribly misused, we are all in relationships constantly. But when people enter into a RELATIONSHIP everything is some how different. Why? How does the decision to “commit” to one person make life any better? What can possibly make one person unique enough that you should close the doors to all others. And the worst part of all of this is that the only think that really defines a relationship is sex. Nobody’s worried about the partner you’re not having sex with. None of it makes any sense. I’ve been in 3 relationship, because I just want to witness this wonderful thing that everybody talks about, and all I see is depression. All I see is the acquiescence of sadness. The fact that unless you choose a person you think makes you the least miserable, you will be cursed to live life alone. Ostracized by society for never “finding love.” So what is it all for? I’d send $1m to anybody who can convince me that there is a point.
