...See more I’m 28, and I’ve been in a relationship for 6 years. Both of us have been beaten down by life lately. My partner just lost his grandmother and then totaled his brand new truck, so he’s dealing with a lot of grief and stress. On top of that, I feel like I’m carrying the emotional weight for both of us. He comes across as very sure of himself, while I’m struggling with my own mental health and often feel lost about where I even fit in his life. That contrast is exhausting. Whenever I try to open up or talk about my feelings, it almost always turns into an argument. I can’t tell if he genuinely doesn’t care, if I’m terrible at communicating, or if we’re just not hearing each other. I have a lot of insecurity in this relationship (which I hate about myself). I’m not sure if I don’t fully trust him… or if I don’t trust myself and my own worth in his eyes. The worst part is that interactions sometimes feel like a competition like there’s an unspoken hierarchy where I have to “know my place” and stay beneath him. It leaves me feeling small and drained. I’m wondering if I’m overreacting, overthinking, or blowing things out of proportion… but these feelings are very real to me right now.
