Happiest Birthday, Serena!

...See more Happiest Birthday Serena! I am sure you weren't really expecting me to do something like this for you but oh well, I have to! >.< @Serena5927 - You're seriously one of the sweetest people I have EVER met. I still remember how we met randomly in the room. We have always seen each other around but one day, I was sharing a bit of my story and you were there supporting me even though you did not know me. From there began something that was going to turn out to be so meaningful later on. I have appreciated the times you have spent talking to me and trusted me as your friend. I often tell people I will PM them but always forget (oops, sorry) but with you, I just knew I had to, so when I saw you in the room, I asked if I could. I am so happy I did! You are a friend, a companion who I truly see myself in. You are so much like me even though it may not be as obvious (I mean, to me they are lol). To hear about your own story, to hear how you have been, how you've been studying, how you're stepping outside your comfort zone - all of it matters to me so incredibly much. When I count the blessings I have received in disguise of special friends, I count you twice! I want you to know that I'm always there to support you through anything so please feel free to drop by in my PMs at any point. You are an amazing person. I love you for your cheeriness, bubbly nature, kind-hearted, sweetness, and well just being all that you already are! You matter a lot to me, please always remember that. When I think of why I like you so much, the only thing that makes sense is that you're you, Serena, all that she is. On your special day, I hope all that you wish for comes true. There is a lot of abundance on your way! You're already stepping out of your comfort zone and exploring things, you're doing so great! No matter where life leads you from here, I hope you will always have people who love you and treat you right. Roses are red, violets are blue. You make my world brighter, by just being you! This poem has been taken from online but I have modified the ending a bit and extended it ❤️ You and I are good friends, on that, we both agree. It means that I am here for you, and you're there for me. We know each other's secrets, we share our dreams and hopes, we help each other stay upright along life's slippery slopes. We might not speak for days or weeks... perhaps a month will pass. But each knows that the other will be there to last. Time stands still, when we both speak, even when we have nothing to say, our craziness is always at peak always there together no matter the week, the day. Hushed noises, muffled laughters having orders at restaurants that we didn't ask, yet our company is enough for each other thereafter us being us with no masks. So here's what I feel, my friend this journey so far with you was precious each thing has a beginning, a middle and an end but for this very special friendship, everlasting it is, I'm ambitious! Tagging some people who I think would like to wish Serena on her birthday - @juliak1968 @AdvocateHP @Blue2001 @Gorg81 @MrMarino @Exulansis00 @WickedSick (I don't know who else to tag, but if you come across this post, please do wish my friend on her birthday!)
Some harsh truths that we have to accept

...See more Hello lovely Positivity & Gratitude Community! I hope all of you are doing well. Today I have a different topic for a forum post than I usually do. I will be sharing some general harsh truths about life, in general. Harsh is defined as unpleasantly rough or jarring to the senses and truth is defined as a fact or belief that is accepted as true. When put together it means certain beliefs or facts about something that is unpleasant, rough to accept or come to terms with. By the sound of it, we may not like hearing harsh truths but because they're truths or things that we have to accept at some point, it's important to understand that none of us is immune to the harsh realities of life. The reason this is getting posted under the Courage, Hope & Healing sub-forum is simple - we have to have acceptance of some sort so that we can take courage, have hope and healing. These truths can be beneficial to accept, it's hard, learning such truths about life, having experiences that shake you up is challenging, does not feel good but it's ultimately something freeing, to learn things and value them. To know that things can hurt, but there's something to learn from that hurt. Here are some truths that I would like to share with you all today. It's okay to disagree with them, this is a space which shall be open for healthy discussion - * People who say they'll always be there for you, won't be there for you at times. * People are allowed to not reciprocate what you feel for them for whatever reasons. * Sometimes, the people we love don't love us back the same way. It's okay to be the person who loves more. * You can go through the hardest time of your life and nobody else would notice it unless you express. * A fulfilling relationship that at one time was meaningful can become toxic. * Just because someone should do something doesn't mean they would. * You always have a choice with the exception of being born into a particular family. * You're accountable for the way you act/react despite your feeling being hurt and/or valid. * No one is going to save you and you shouldn't expect them to. * Life will never be perfect, perfect doesn't even exist. We can only hope to be as good as we can be, and can only hope things get as good as they can be. * Busy doesn't always mean that you're making progress. * We underestimate what we can do in a day and overestimate what we can do in a year. * Life isn't always happy but it's because of this never disappearing sadness that we learn to value both. * Nothing lasts forever and that's a good thing. * Sometimes your best at a day won't be enough to bring about a significant change but doing your best whatever it is that day accumulates to a significant change long-term. * The basic things - eating well, sleeping well, exercise, drinking water - make a huge difference in your mental health. Don't avoid them or shrug them off saying "it can't be that simple," it already is simple, it's just not easy. * The person who is the easiest to fool for us is ourselves. * There is always someone smarter, prettier, and better than you. But then again, comparison is a thief of joy, you have a choice to partake in the crime or not. * Best things in life are the little things but to maintain these little things, you have to go big. * Nobody owes you their time and mental energy. These are just the ones I randomly found on the internet and ones which I personally thought to be true. If you want to share your view on any of them, please feel free to do so and you're more than welcome to share with us your own truths that you've discovered. Question 1. What are some harsh truths about life you're trying to come to terms with and what about them is particularly hard to accept? Feel free to share with us by replying to this thread!
Some thought provoking questions that I wrote in my journal

...See more Hello lovely Positivity & Gratitude Community! I hope all of you are doing well! Today I was looking through some prompts to help shape a better image of the person I want to become. I came across some very interesting questions and I thought I'll share them with you all. Feel free to use them if they make you think or if you feel you'd like to answer them! This is not an exhaustive list, just some I found to stand out to me personally. I think asking questions to ourselves and having that 1-on-1 session with ourselves can be very enlightening and worth it for us. I hope you feel the same about these questions! Questions 1. How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are? 2. Would you accept the gift of reading other people's minds if it meant you could never turn it off? 3. In what ways are you the same as your childhood self? 4. What words would you pass to your childhood self? 5. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you? 6. What stands between you and happiness? 7. What do you want to be remembered for? 8. What’s the one thing you wish you had done at this point in your life? And why haven’t you done it yet? 9. What is the lie you tell yourself most often? 10. What are the day-to-day things you do that really make you feel good? Do you find yourself doing them as often as you’d like to? If no, why not? 11. What is your favourite thing about yourself? 12. What does it feel like to remember something? 13. Does social media make you in general happier or sadder? If sadder, why do you keep participating in it? 14. What harsh truths do you prefer to ignore? 15. If you could teach everyone in the world one concept, what concept would have the biggest positive impact on humanity? 16. What life-altering things should every human ideally get to experience at least once in their lives? 17. What are you capable of achieving? 18. By what standards do you judge yourself? 19. Where do you think is the most worthwhile place to find meaning in life? Work, family, hobby, religion, philosophy, helping others, all the small miracles, or something else entirely? 20. What do you think your future self will remember about you now? Can we ever truly know ourselves? - A train of thought

...See more Hello lovely Positivity & Gratitude Community! I hope all of you have been doing amazing. Lately, I have been marvelling over the thought of whether it is possible to ever truly know oneself. I am someone who takes pride in being self-reliant because “I know myself best, only I will get myself through it.” But as the complexity of life and the subtleties of human relationships have unfolded in my life, I think I am doing quite well at understanding how it might not be possible to completely know ourselves - and why we don’t even have to, how it is okay to know just a little. Today, I will be sharing some things I read, I hope it feels like an interesting reading for all of you! I hope we can all have a great soulful discussion on this. ┍━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┑ “Self-knowledge is only from moment to moment, and therefore there is a creative happiness from moment to moment.” - Jiddu Krishnamurti ┕━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┙ Many philosophers like Descartes believed that we do know ourselves - of course, we know what we need to do, what we would like, what we would benefit from, why we do some things - that counts as self-knowledge, right? But Sigmund Freud had a different perspective on this, he realized that it wasn’t this simple to know oneself. A lot of our desires, true intentions and beliefs are hidden from us, repressed in small boxes inside our mind which isn’t easy to uncover on our own. And there is a lot of evidence, a lot of personal observation to support this claim that we might not know ourselves as well as we think we do. Take yourself for an example, reflect back over a time you did not understand why you did a certain thing - you had to self-introspect, spend some time, speculate on why you did what you did - the possibilities, the explanations, the patterns, so many things to consider. Even then, such reflections can be limited because of the limited experience that we’ve had so far. Do you think you’d react the same way in a situation from the past having the understanding of today? I believe it is not possible. Albert Camus, a French philosopher said, “To know oneself, one should assert oneself. Psychology is action, not thinking about oneself. We continue to shape our personality all our life.” Doesn’t that make our speculation of knowing who we are incomplete or at least something that is ever-changing? It’s human nature to adapt, change and evolve as they go through life - to assert their survival, to keep their species from extinction. If we are always changing, what is the point to even go on the quest of trying to know ourselves? Is there ever a definite answer? What I think is, knowing yourself doesn’t mean knowing everything that is there about you at any given moment. I think it is about accepting how so much of it would change with time but still being willing to understand it as it changes, to understand yourself and how you are changing with your reactions. Being aware of what has changed, what remains the same and how it can be better helps a lot and might be the closest thing that can help us know why we do what we do. What are your thoughts on self-knowledge? Question 2. What is something about you that you know for sure to be true, something that might not have changed so much over the years? ...See more Hello loveliest people of the 7 Cups community ❤️ today is a very special day because it's my twinnie and one of my closest friends' birthday! @Exulansis00 joined cups on January 8, 2020 and has been a great part of this community. She has brought immense value here and has always been there to support other people. Most of you may have seen her in the rooms being her cute self and being inclusive of all. Her presence just radiates and brightens the place she is in. She's always the one welcoming new people to rooms, who has been a great participant when there's a discussion and one who's always there to host and help around in the Sharing Circle. Today I'd like to take a moment and create a space to appreciate this beautiful person who I have had the privilege to meet. She is very special and dear to me and so many others. What does courage mean to you?

...See more Hello lovely Positivity and Gratitude Community, I hope all of you are doing well ❤️ Today we are talking about Courage - what it is, some lessons drawn from a character I really look up to and then let's have a discussion on the benefits of cultivating courage! Courage is defined as the ability to control your fear in a dangerous or difficult situation. Dangerous here could mean a lot of things, subjectively it is anything that threatens your sense of identity, puts your life at risk or just about anything that could potentially lead you to be helpless. Courage in these times could be the most important thing for us. When you speak in front of a bully and ask them to leave you/the bullied person alone, you showed courage. When you think you're going to fail a test or not do well on a job interview but you do it anyway, you show courage. When you are doing something despite being fearless knowing doing it would reap good results, you're being courageous and it's never a little thing. As Brene Brown said, "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." I've recently started watching My Hero Academia, so the character that I'm learning a lot from, I'd like to share about him. His name is Midoriya Izuku, I wouldn't talk about the show in itself, just some instances where Izuku, a boy who was 'quirkless' was still someone way better than one with a quirk. Quirks here basically means some kind of superpower like invisibility, explosion, ice, strength, etc. So, here are a few lessons I learned from Midoriya Izuku: 🦋 Sometimes you may have to just keep fighting. As someone who is easily held back by fear and setbacks, this is a reminder I intend to keep with me for long. Often times, we think "we have tried x number of times, it just won't work now." While that could be true, sometimes trying is the most we can do. Maybe tomorrow we won't get the results we want, but some tomorrow, whenever that will come, our efforts will pay off because of the snowball effect, these little things we do aren't so little, they add up to be a lot. 🦋 When things seem hopeless, that's when holding on to hope and your own abilities matter the most. We've all had moments we felt like giving up, like we just couldn't go on. It's a stressful and extremely difficult time for sure. We may feel like trying is leading to no good so why bother expending that much energy on this. However, you never know what result you'll get. Sometimes despite how hopeless things may be, we have to persevere, there's no way around it. We have to get tough and push through. We have to believe in ourselves and make sure we achieve our goals. 🦋 Having a role model helps. We all have someone we really look up to, we all know why right? Yet, how many of us are trying to be like them? Or at least aspiring to. How many of us want to be someone else can look up to? How many of us want to be the domino that falls first? Izuku has a role model that he looks up to, so much that whenever he's about to lose a fight, he just thinks of him and gets such a great rush and energy that he defeats his opponent. Having someone you can look up to boosts your morale, it gives you an idea of what qualities you're trying to harvest in yourself and also lets you want to push through. It helps you to never lose sight of where you come from and where you're planning to go. Question. How do you plan on cultivating your courage and what will you be doing today to make sure you're getting a step closer? Visualization: Powerful Tool We All Have

The Cambridge Dictionary describes Visualization as the act of visualizing something or someone (forming a picture of it in your mind). Visualization is something all of us do daily without even realizing it. It is impossible to create something you can’t first imagine. An interesting thing about our brain is, it cannot easily distinguish between what is real and what is not. Psychologists have been using this visual imagery as a way to help people do better, be in better emotional states and achieve their life goals. From the sound of it, visualization seems to be the key to getting anything done, right? You’d be shocked to know that just visualizing yourself achieving something can help you achieve it. If you can imagine yourself playing the piano, for example, there are higher chances of you learning the piano piece much faster and better. By visualizing that you can do something, you actually reinforce a belief that you actually can do it which helps in achieving the said goal. Visualization is basically a simulation that you play in your head where you are able to carry out the thing that you want to and can feel how it would feel if you’d actually carry it out. This process can be very natural at times and we wouldn’t even know of it. But that also means that often we wouldn’t be able to dictate that reality. Thus, learning to visualize with a sense of control becomes a powerful tool that we can all use. You don’t just see yourself accomplishing something, you feel that you’ve already accomplished and felt that satisfaction within you which helps stimulate the actions that will help you get to your desired result. The key to visualization is believing you already have it, and feeling as if you do so that all your actions after will be motivated by the simple goal to achieve neglecting certain limiting beliefs in case there were any. Now let’s talk about some benefits of visualization: The most obvious one, it helps you define what you want to achieve. When you decide on a goal, you try to focus on the feeling you'll get when you'll achieve it and then start pretending that you already have it. This helps you to stray clear of any negative thoughts and only focus on what you want to achieve, thus requiring you to further define your goal and amplifying the whole process for better results. Increases positive thoughts and motivation. Visualization requires a lot of active mental efforts. When you constantly remind yourself to feel happy and accomplished, it becomes hard to distinguish whether or not you have it, making it easier for you to focus on the positive and ultimately increase your motivation to continue wanting to feel that way. It stimulates your senses and makes the accomplishment of the goal feel so real that it comes as second nature to pretend having already achieved it. Reduce Stress. When you're visualizing, you're putting yourself in a reality where you're an accomplished person. This can help you reduce stress and any anxiety related to the goal you're working on. When you already have what you most wanted, there's not really much to worry about, right? So by visualization, you can actually feel a lot calmer and think clearly. Optimize your performance. When you believe you can do something, you really put yourself ahead in the game. By visualizing something, you set a mental image in your brain of you doing it so when the time comes, your brain just retraces what you originally visualized making you do the activity in a much better and faster way. As I mentioned before, your brain can't tell the difference between what is real and what is not, and it can be a good thing when used wisely. Visualization fosters courage and purpose. It helps you to tackle any situation that you've visualized thus giving you courage at the moment you need it. When it comes to doing the activity you visualized your brain realizes it has already done it before and takes it just as some sort of re-do. It also helps in fostering purpose because it helps in creating strong beliefs, it reinforces your actions and helps you in feeling capable and ready to tackle any issue. Now that we have discussed what is visualization and its benefits, you may be wondering, “well, how do I even start?” so now I will list some ways you can do visualization and I hope it will help you out! While I am discussing the steps, I will also include personal examples so that they may be easier to understand. Step 1. Close your eyes and try to breathe as deeply as you can. The goal is to put yourself in a calm state so that you can think clearly and feel at peace. If you’re feeling anxious, go for a walk, get some water then get comfortable on a chair, sofa or even your bed, wherever you think you will feel comfortable. Example. I will drink some water, ask my family members to not disturb me for a while and sit on my study desk and try to get comfortable. I will keep my phone on silent and make sure there’s nothing in my surrounding that will require me to immediately act. No distraction is the goal while achieving this step. Step 2. Try to focus on your desired goal, imagine yourself achieving it, feel the way you’d feel if you really did and only think of positive thoughts. Details, details - this step is all about putting a clear image in your mind. What type of person you would be? What would your surrounding be like? Who would you be around? What will you be feeling? If there’s any setback, how will you be tackling it? Plan it all through and through! The goal isn’t to resist the negative thoughts or doubts that you may have, it is to work consciously towards believing that you already have what it takes. Example. Let’s say my goal is to get good marks for my final examinations, so I will be visualizing myself getting my results online and having scored 95%+ I will feel happy thinking about it, hear “I am proud of you” from others and even myself. I may even tell my friends and then we’re all celebrating it. Don’t worry that the details will be too much, the more the better because it will help you to want to pursue it even further! If I do end up thinking, “well I am not even studying enough for it… maybe I won’t get it,” it’s okay to think that but I need to combat that thought with a positive one so that I don’t get swayed away by my doubts. I believe in you, you can believe in yourself too! Step 3. Create a vision board or write this out somewhere where you’re able to see this. Now that we have the mental image in our mind, all we have to do is work on it! And I know, that’s the hardest part but hey, we came such a long way! We could see ourselves achieving it, so maybe we can do it, right? What all goes on this board? Anything and everything that is related to your goal! A person you look up to? Their picture can be used. Maybe some quotes that can inspire you to remain positive. The only thing you can do is keep pushing through. We all have what it takes to achieve all that we want to. It’s really about believing you can do it, and I know that we all can! Question. What are your thoughts on visualization and what goal are you currently working on to achieve? Feel free to share with us by replying to this thread!
