Distance Relationship Hardship
Relationship Stress / by placidApple1892

...See more Ive been dating this girl for almost 2 years. We went distance about 8 months ago since we graduated college and had jobs in different cities. This honestly hasn’t been all too bad. Sure it’s not as nice as being close to each other, but we make time each week for online dates and we see each other in person about once a month. We both have pretty flexible work schedules which helps. Today though, she took a reassignment which has her moving to a different state for 6-12 months. This isn’t any farther or closer, but it means she’s going to be more busy and now because it starts a few days before Valentine’s day she says I won’t be able to see her because she’ll just be moving in and doesn’t want to use any PTO to take a day off even the week after V day since she’s just starting this temporary reassignment. I want to support her career, but I feel very neglected, and I had a lot of fun plans for us on Valentine’s day since she was originally planning to visit me. Now she’s saying I can’t even visit her that week or the week after. I got pretty sad about it today and apologized to her since I really dampened the mood of her successfully getting this position which leads to more money and career advancement. I’m also really scared this will continue to cause us to not see eachother and build tension. I’m not sure what to do, or if it’s even fair of me to be so upset, but I just feel crushed and scared. Scared that her work will always come first. Scared that not seeing me will make her start to look for attention and love elsewhere. I can’t shake the thoughts of us eventually breaking up due to never seeing her because she’s so wrapped up in work or keeps moving around. Should I continue to be open about my feelings, or will this only build resentment with her if she thinks I’m trying to deter her from her career. I want to be supportive, but I’m also just so sad.
