There's nothing quite like the experience of bringing a newborn baby home. The joy and pride you'll feel of being a new parent is something that is truly an experience to treasure. However, every parent knows that bringing a baby home doesn't come without some stresses. If you're needing help handling the arrival of your newborn, talk to the online counselors at 7 Cups.

Bringing Baby Home

Bringing your baby home is exciting, but there will definitely be an adjustment period. Babies do not operate on the same schedule as adults, so one of the most common and significant stressors you'll face is the wildly different sleep schedules of you and your baby. Chances are, you won't be getting enough sleep during this period of time. This lack of sleep can cause stress and irritability.

In addition to acclimating to your baby's sleep schedule (or lack thereof), new parents are often frustrated by learning what their baby wants. Crying can usually be taken care of by feeding them, holding them, burping them, changing their diaper, or putting them down for a nap, but sometimes it can be hard to figure out what exactly they are wanting. Sometimes babies just cry. This can also be very frustrating for a parent.

Not to mention, if you have other kids, you'll also have to help them adjust to their new little sibling, which can be quite a challenge.

Other Issues

Besides the adjustment issues, there are a variety of other issues that new parents might face. These can include:

  • Attachment Issues

  • Breastfeeding/Feeding Challenges

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Postpartum Depression

  • Postpartum Psychosis
