Coping Skills for Internet Addiction
Recovery is not always easy, but there are ways to work through the difficult days.
Developing healthy coping skills is essential to maintain sobriety. Here is a list of coping skills to help you be successful on your road to recovery.
- Journaling- Instead of keeping your feelings in, get them out. Writing can be a great way to release and work out any thoughts that you are struggling with.
- Exercise- Regular exercise is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety and can be used as an alternative to your addiction.
- Keep busy- If you have previously used your addiction as a distraction, now you have to replace those old actions with positive ones. Check things off of your to-do list. Do things you’ve been putting off.
- Find a support system- Recovery is not easy, and is important to know that you are never alone in the process. Be open to new relationships that will support your recovery, and find a support system of reliable, trustworthy peers who you can call at any time of need.

Practicing Meditation- Meditation, when practiced properly, can bring you into the present moment and away from painful memories that often fuel relapse. It is also a very simple skill that you can do anywhere.
