Step 4: Ask Good Questions
- Show that you're listening and trying to understand by mirroring what they've said with a question. For example, "Here's what I heard, is that what you meant?" or "So you're saying this. Do I have that right?"
- If they're discussing a situation you have little to no experience with, you should ask questions about the parts you don't understand. For instance, "That sounds really hard, but I want to understand more. Can you tell me more about this aspect?"
This skill shows the other person that you're hearing what's said and are wanting to understand more.
