Guilt for Social Detoxing

...See more So this probably requires a bit of a background because I'm not generally a socially anxious person: I'm a pretty severe introvert but I've worked in retail for about a decade now. It's a very mentally draining thing for me but I'm good at it and I've kind of pigeon holed myself into it. I'm not really looking to change careers because I like the schedule and routine that comes with my job outside of the social aspects. I do find myself very quickly mentally drained by larger gathering of people. I live with two other people who are way more extroverted and socialize really frequently so it's rare that I'm truly "alone". I like my roommates but I also have a lot of times where I want to be alone or only maybe deal with one other person while I mentally detox myself from the stress and anxiety I put myself through already. He becomes pretty passive aggressive if he doesn't get full blown irritated with me and puts me down when I try to respectfully distance myself. Sometimes I'm on the brink of tears because I don't think it's wrong to want alone time, even if it's when he brings company over. How do I approach it in a way that will make him understand how deperate I am for an inner isolation and quiet place to give myself peace of mind?

Fear of the new normal

...See more So I got the call today that next week I'll be going back to work. It's a new job I was supposed to start but the week I was meant to start the state entered shutdown. I had a complete breakdown once I hung up. I'm having another even now. It's not even the virus that really scares me anymore. It's the "new normal" that's going to happen. My career is in retail so anyone that knows that industry knows it's already somewhat chaotic and in its own constant flux. What scares me is learning a new job with a new company after months of being on lockdown and adjusting to this "new normal" that people have already seen take effect in various ways across the country. Prior to the lockdown I was already having serious anxiety and depression struggles. I have a therapist now and I'm really doing my best to work on myself but I don't know how to handle going back to work. I'm grateful for my job but so much is out of my control and after all that's happened I don't know what to do to hold myself together.

Looking Back and Laughing

...See more So this is a recent thing that happened that kind of falls into this category. I struggle with my self esteem and having a positive self image. It hindered my relationships with guys (I'm a cis female) because I felt unattractive. One guy I've had a more intimate but not committed relationship with had a habit of taking off my glasses during intimacy. I wore glasses almost all my life and I thought that I looked better with them And felt self conscious without them. I didn't want to tell him that it made me self conscious because he wasn't saying anything malicious or teasing me, but my mind was starting to make warped assumptions and it would've been an issue eventually. Anyway I thought recently about bringing it up when I knew how I wanted to ask before it happened again. Without having any idea of what I'd been thinking, he mentioned that he liked taking my glasses off because he really liked my eyes and said I had a very pretty face. He was big on eye contact so it made sense. I felt instantly relieved that none of my crazy ideas and theories were unfounded! I told him about my weird logic last night and we both had a great laugh about it! It felt good to know that I am attractive as I am and I can feel better about not having my glasses on. I hope this riveting story reaches someone with the same problems and you can look back and laugh about it like I have.
