overwhelmed

...See more Sometimes it feels like overwhelm can be worse during this time of year. In most places its cold, and cloudy more often that not, which can affect emotions and make everything feel like a slog.  What has been helpful for me? Reaching out to friends. God calls us to bear one another's burdens, and if you are like me, you want to do that for others but don't know if you should let others help you. Let others help you.  Trying to remember to do things that are restorative for me, not just scroll. I'm Gen Z. I can't speak for the other generations but many in Gen Z including me tend to "rest" by being on our phones and scrolling. Listening to music is one of those things for me. There are lots of people here and if we work together we can build out a set of things that help for others to try. So. What is helpful for you when things feel like a lot?

Happy New Year!

...See more This year has been a year of getting over the nerves I’ve had about reaching out to others and building community. I was so blessed to have someone reach out to be my mentor and I began to with her encouragement reach out and hang out with others! It was a bit nerve wracking but it was worth it. If you’re wondering whether or not you should reach out, my encouragement would be to do so. God built us for community. I certainly don’t come close to having everything right but I’m so grateful my mentor came into my life to challenge me to begin to live life in community the way God created us to.

...See more As I have been finishing up this semester, I have been getting tired and will see all my classmates start to feel the same way very quickly if it goes like it normally does. Just thinking about how it is still important, or even especially important to do the things that help/are restful even though those tend to be the first thing to go for me. For me that is going to look like continuing to make sure I am living in community and make sure I am still exercising (just walking lol) most days, as well as a few other things. Grateful for the rest at the end of the tunnel post finals 😂.

Helping may often mean listening without answers

...See more You don’t need to be a counselor or expert to show care. When people are suffering—physically or emotionally—small acts of kindness can speak volumes. Especially just listening without giving answers that you think you might have, and maybe a prayer may seem like a very ineffective or little thing to do, but people often just need someones presence and listening ear. Every one of us can reflect Christ’s compassion in practical ways.

...See more Hi! If you have been through something hard, what was it that a friend did or said (or didn't do or say) that helped the most? I would love to learn what has been the most or least helpful so I can support people better as I go throughout life.

...See more If you have gone through a hard time, what was it that a friend did, (or didn't do) that helped you the most, or made you feel the most loved? Maybe we can give each other ideas on how to best support one another.
