...See more Hello, Emotionalhuman here. Today I want to talk about trauma as a result of sensory issues. Especially in regards to autism and/or other disorders with often overlapping issues. Being too sensitive to sound, touch, smell, sight, taste. When we have a problem with our senses it greatly affects our lives. Even day to day life remains a challenge. Things that normally wouldn't bother others are amplified or disorientating. It can be very scary especially with repeated exposure to these hurtful sensations due to our sensitivity. I will use an example from my life in order for everyone to best understand what I mean. Physical contact is very important socially to humans. When you have a sensitivity to humans touching you it is very upsetting and uncomfortable. Even innocent gestures people normally don't think twice of are difficult to bear. When someone touched me I felt overwhelmed. This would happen a lot. It was difficult for me to explain myself and it made me very uncomfortable. I avoided people it made me feel very lonely too. When I was touched it hurt a lot. The physical sensations were unbearable to me. Sensitivity to sensory information leads to traumatic experiences which are often misunderstood. Because these experiences are socially acceptable behaviour it often goes overlooked. It is a silent and isolating experience because people often say "It's nothing major." Feel free to ask me questions. I want to make sure I am understood. Thank you for reading.
