I'm eager to learn how to become a better listener so that I can help anyone who feels that no one is around to listen to them. I've suffered with feelings of lonliness along with a host of others as well, and would like to help out anyone who might be struggling as well.

Character Strengths Reflection

...See more My top three character strengths were love of learning, curiosity, and hope. I think that these perfectly encompass who I am. I am the type of person who overloads my classes just because I want to learn for the sake of learning. I don't care about requirements for my major-I just want to get my hands on as much knowledge as possible. I also always have hope that I will be able to balance the workload while still coming out on top with my grades. Having these strengths have led to a lot of interesting opportunities for me-speech and debate (comedy category-which would be very surprising if you knew me, getting to go to Florida (for free) for a business competition, making it to NCAA Division 2 wrestling (got a major concussion from that), and so many other weird side adventures just because I was curious on what it would feel like.  Prompt: Think of what you would consider your signature strengths. Do you primarily use these strengths for your own well-being, or for the well-being of others? How can you ensure a balanced usage? To be honest, I see myself as an inherently selfish person. I am always trying to get ahead with my own work and passions, which leaves less room for friends and family. However, my curiosity and love of learning led me to the 7 cups internship! This has led me to help people by honing my skills on how to properly listen to people. Although, I suppose that is also inherently selfish because I took the internship because I wanted to learn how to be a better listener and communicator for myself. I also want to help my brother with these new skills, although it is scary because my family is a bit weird. We have our own struggles, which make it hard to communicate with each other. However, I was recently able to help a friend with a breakup-I think-or else, I didn't do anything to make it worse, so there's improvement. Whenever I try to spread my own hope, though, it always goes wrong. I believe in aggressive optimism, where things have to get better. It's inevitable. I also believe in cliche phrases like "What goes up must come down". I now know that, while the phrase is inherently true (cliches become cliches for a reason), it's usually not what people need to hear when they need someone to talk to.

Ikigai Reflection

...See more I had read a book on Ikigai a few years ago, so I really enjoyed reading about ikigai again in the inner developmental course. Ikigai is defined as the action we take in pursuit of happiness. More specifically, ikigai is what gives us long-term contentment and fulfill over our lifetime. It includes acting on a lifetime purpose, in which your work will never truly be done. With ikigai, you find the balance between your passions, strengths, and ability to turn those into a career.  Prompt: Share what Ikigai means to you, and what your purpose is.  Because I already shared what Ikigai means to me, I will delve straight into my purpose. There are a lot of things I want to do, but I believe that my true purpose is to become an author. Some of my strengths include a love of learning, curiosity, and hope. I would love to write books that inspire others to do the same, as the world needs more people who are passionate about living. Maybe if people read books on what they are missing out on by not taking a passionate perspective, they will be motivated to go out and live more, and not take for granted what they have. This can be turned into a career, if I'm lucky, by selling my books. If I learn how to market, advertise, and hone my writing, I am sure that I can make it as a full-time author.  Just thinking about being a full-time author makes me happy. I would get to control my own schedule, work for as long as I want, and not have anyone tell me what to do. I would get to spend my days creating or consuming books, and helping people by doing so. I would go to all sorts of different cafes to write, and my books would sell enough to fuel my coffee and matcha addiction.

Journal Entry
Journals & Diaries / by Kaleigh3067

...See more Hello! This is my first time posting in the community, but I'm glad there is something like this here because I would like to journal my thoughts without people knowing exactly who I am.  I went through my fair share of depression, anxiety, and self-harm a long while back, but I've changed a lot since then. I feel incredibly privileged to have the problems that I'm dealing with right now, because they are nothing like the journal entries of others in the community that I've read.  Somehow I managed to turn all of my negative energy into the intense desire to be successful and learn everything. Right now, I'm getting ready to start applying to my dream schools to transfer to, and I'm feeling a little stressed from the deadline I have. In 6 weeks, I retake the SAT. For the school I want to go to, I would need to get a near perfect score, which involves a lot of studying and practice tests until then. I'm also writing a book right now, and my goal is to get it published before I go back to school, which is right after the SAT's. I'm almost done with the first draft right now, but I know the editing stage will take a while, and I haven't even started marketing it yet. I'm also taking two college classes at the moment-both intro classes, but they take up time. I'm also doing the 7 cups internship-which I love, don't get me wrong-but I wonder what the chances are that I can succeed at everything I want to do. I'm taking calculus next semester, but I haven't taken a trigonometry or pre-calculus college class, so I need to make time to brush up on my trigonometry (I'm an English major, btw-not very good at math naturally). I'm also on my college wrestling team, so if I don't stay in shape over the summer, I'll have *** to pay once the semester starts. The worst part about it is the turnover. As soon as I take the SAT's, I leave for college, and the semester starts the very next day. I won't have time to reflect or relax or even conceive of a break, and I'll be entering what is most likely my hardest semester. I'm pushing myself this summer and the next semester with hard classes because that will be the final thing that the schools I'm applying to will see. It's my dream to get into the school I want, and I want to put everything into it. I just wonder if I'll be able to pull it all off.  However, I know that these problems are way above everyone else's, who are just trying to survive. That's why I can't talk about these things with my friends. They don't get it. If it's so tiring, then why don't I just stop? It's a paradox. The more I put in, the happier I am, even if I'm getting more tired or stress. This is what I want. I enjoy doing all the things I do-it's not just because I want the end goal of going to a prestigious school.  I so badly want to be good enough for it.
