Bio
Hello! You may call me Myles.

I am in my twenties, living in the United States. I have my bachelors degree in psychology, and plan on pursing my Masters in Public Health and law degree. I want to say upfront that I am not a licensed mental health professional, and our exchanges should not be considered a therapist/client relationship.

I want to disclose a few personal things about myself, so that you may feel comfortable. First, I identify as agender (not identifying with any gender), bi/graysexual (on the asexual spectrum but have been attracted to genders like and unlike mine in the past) and mostly aromantic (I'm still figuring this out). My pronouns are they/them/their. My gender identity and sexual/romantic orientation are a very important part of my identity, and shape many of my experiences. If you want to discuss your gender or sexual/romantic orientation with me, I want you to know that this is a safe space to do so. :)

I have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and idiopathic hypersomnia. I have experience with pharmacotherapy, and have also undergone transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for depression, I manage my panic disorder with CBT and occasional pharmacotherapy, and I am still seeking long term treatment for PTSD. My PTSD is the result of the sudden and traumatic death of my younger sister. I have experienced loss, and while I cannot possibly begin to understand what you may going through, I often know what to say and have resources to recommend.

I have been in my share of abusive relationships, and have grown a lot as a result. I have a lot of insight and understand that abuse isn't something that you can just leave. I can be here to listen to and support you through the difficulty of leaving an abusive partner, or through the initial pain of a break up. It is never easy, but you are not alone and this too, will pass.

I have worked in pharmacy for a number of years and have known many individuals struggling with alcohol or drug abuse. This includes my patients, my family, and my friends.

I have also worked in a toxic environment and can provide insights and an empathic ear to help anyone who finds themselves in the same situation.

Some quotes that I have found helpful and want to share:

"Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak; sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go." - Unknown
“When someone is crying, of course, the noble thing to do is to comfort them. But if someone is trying to hide their tears, it may also be noble to pretend you do not notice them.” - Lemony Snicket

“If you have ever lost a loved one, then you know exactly how it feels. And if you have not, then you cannot possibly imagine it.” - Lemony Snicket

Gone from my Sight by Henry Van Dyke
"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying."

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." - Helen Keller

“You are not just here to fill space or be a background character in someone else’s movie. Consider this: nothing would be the same if you did not exist. Every place you have ever been and everyone you have ever spoken to would be different without you. We are all connected, and we are all affected by the decisions and even the existence of those around us.”
—David Niven

“Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence.”
—The Little Prince

“A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face she inquired, “How heavy is this glass of water?” The answers called out ranged from 8oz to 20 oz. She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If i hold it for a minute, its not a problem. If i hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stress and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them for a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed - incapable of doing anything.” Always remember to put the glass down.”

“Follow your inner truth, not some external guru. Any guru who demands your obedience is a false prophet. A real teacher is one who empowers you and sets you free to explore your life experience with complete freedom tempered by a code of morals and personal responsibility.”
—Mike Adams

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief… and unspeakable love.”
—Washington Irving

"The more love you radiate out into the world, the more love will be returned to you.
Love can change your whole outlook on life. Love can even change the appearance of a person.
Even the plainest person becomes beautiful when the heart is full of love.

Love does indeed transform and transmute as nothing else can because it is the greatest power in the universe. It is love that will weld you together. Love that will make you one.
Love that will enable you to see the best in others.
Love that will surmount all difficulties and all that will divide and separate you.”
—Unknown

"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone."
- Robin Williams as Lance Clayton in World's Greatest Dad

"When we're sad, it's easy to find ourselves swallowed up by our tears. Rather than letting sadness consume, I have resolved to consume sadness. When I feel my eyes grow heavy and my cheeks grow damp, I tilt my head back and close my eyes. Existing in that moment, I feel my tears as they run down my throat. With a deep, cleansing breath, I resolve to acknowledge my sadness and appreciate it, but to mindfully consume it before I'm washed out to sea." - Personal quote
