My mom passed away this morning
Grief & Loss / by Pokefan46

...See more Hi, I’m Tal. I recently lost my mom, and I’m trying to navigate the grieving process while handling all the emotions that come with it. A bit of context: I’m autistic and have bipolar disorder, ADHD, and anxiety. I live at home with my dad and, before she passed, my mom, my younger brother (who’s also autistic), two dogs, and two cats. My parents were together for 34 years and had a loving, healthy relationship. My mom struggled with alcoholism that started during the pandemic. I’m not sure if that was the main factor in her passing, but it definitely contributed. Regardless, we’re all in shock. My dad is struggling to hold himself together while handling phone calls, paperwork, funeral preparations, and other logistics. He’s very independent and insists he can do things on his own, but I can’t help but worry about him. My younger brother is still processing everything. Our pets are pacing around the house, clearly looking for my mom or at least sensing that there’s been a huge change in the household. Right now, I have so many emotions and thoughts running through me: the fact that my parents will never grow old together, the trips we’ll never take with her, and the Christmas presents my dad and I bought that she’ll never get to use. I’m scared for the future and unsure how we’ll live without her. My mom was a sweet, intelligent, and open-minded person. She protected and supported us and was probably the best mother my brother and I could have. My dad was her partner for 34 years, and I know he’s deeply grieving too, even if he expresses it differently. Even though we have a support system through family and friends, I still feel scared and vulnerable. I guess the best way I can describe it is feeling like I’ve regressed to a little kid trying to navigate the adult world without her mother. I’m sorry if I'm not being coherant right now. I’m crying as I type this. I just need some advice on what to do and how to help my recently-widowed dad.

How do I stop being a perfectionist with my artwork?

...See more I consider myself a budding artist. I mostly draw animals, Pokemon or other non-human characters (mainly because I am not good at drawing humans). Usually what I do is draw something in my sketchbook, take a picture of it on my Nintendo 2DS, and then use a software called Colors 3D to trace the lineart and color it. The main problem I'm facing is my perfectionism. If something in the drawing doesn't look right, say a paw of a Pokemon, then I erase it and keep redrawing it over and over again. Sometimes to the point where the paper starts to tear from all the erasing. (It's kind of pointless to do that because I'm going to go over it in Colors 3D anyway.) I know that my art doesn't have to be perfect, and that nobody is going to look at it closer than I am, but I just can't help it. I've tried listening to music, which helps a little bit. I've also tried looking at tutorials, which doesn't seem to help. It doesn't help that people have said my art is simplistic. I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing, but it still bothers me. I'm at the point where I'm considering giving up drawing. What do I do? (Hopefully this is in the right thread)

Trouble with overeating
Eating Disorder Support / by Pokefan46

...See more I've been having trouble with overeating. I've been doing it since I was nine years old. I used to sneak food from my parents' kitchen and eat it without their permission. Ten years later, I now have a part-time job which means I can make my own money and buy my own food. I often get cravings for junk food. I often give in to those cravings, instead of spending money on healthier foods. I usually eat most of the food I buy by the course of a week and a half. I should spend it on healthy foods but the problem is, they're kind of expensive. I've noticed that I often eat junk food when I'm bored, or stressed. I need to figure out how to resist the temptation to eat junk food all the time and figure out how to be smart about what I eat in between meals. I'm also at risk for diabetes as well, which is one reason why I need to change my eating habits. Both of my parents have it and I don't want to be the third person in my family to get it. (Sorry if this is kind of random. I'm new here so I'm trying to figure out this site still.)
