...See more Due to my severe anxiety and mild CP, I've been using trekking poles on flat land now, not just hilly or rough terrain. I feel so old and undesirable now because of it.

Self-help gurus oppressive?

...See more Okay so I have looked through self-help books and resources for a large portion of my life. I've been on SSDI since 2011 and still managed to get a Bachelors degree but I still struggle to have financial privilege. Anyway, I am currently following a self-help guru on Youtube who tries to convince people that they can move to L.A. with no or very little money. I reached out to her to ask how people on SSDI or fixed incomes can move and survive in L.A. and she didn't want me asking those questions because it wasn't the point of her message. Anyway, I found it a bit hypocritical and strange. Also, before going on disability I did read the Secret. Personally I feel that most of the information and advice given in these books, websites, etc comes off as oppressive, ableist, and geared more to the well off people who want more. What's your thoughts on this matter?

ASPD? 1% or more?

...See more I had an interesting chat and listened to an interesting opinion from a lady in my Sunday School class this morning. I go to a local UU and the Sunday School is really just a "Living the Questions"/philosophy discussion type of class before the service. Anyway she apparently has experience (past) with Sociopathy (I'm guessing a relative, or something) and sense comparing empathy and sympathy was part of our discussion today, she pointed out that some people can't feel empathy. She also went on to talk about a brain study she read about. I pointed out to her that only 1% of the world's population has ASPD. I also have some personal past and present experience with individuals with ASPD and/or similar personality disorders, so I understand her interest. Anyway, she told it's actually 4% but she didn't have a source to back it up. Honestly, I haven't used that many academic resources in my research either anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows more about the percentage of the world's population being on the ASPD sepctrum? I've also read somewhere that 16% of prison population includes sociopathic/ASPD individuals. Also is there a mild to severe sprectrum of ASPD?
