I was sexually abused by my father, and my mother failed to protect me

...See more I need advice after experiencing abuse I female find myself struggling to cope with an incredibly distressing situation.  I'm At the age of 22, now -I'm in a safe home now and out of harms way- I am a survivor of sexual abuse perpetrated by my father, an ordeal that began during infancy. My parents separated during my early childhood, with my mother granting full custody to my father. After her move out of town, her visits became infrequent. As a child, my father often told me that I would grow up to be a scoundrel like him, using his own traumatic experiences as a means to manipulate and exert control over me expressing that he repeated his pain on to me so my future will be doomed and ill understand one day . This assertion was profoundly untrue. When I confided in my mother about his abusive behavior and the hurtful words he directed at me, she shockingly seemed to affirm his sentiments, implying that I was undeserving of support after he violated me, despite my innocence as a frail child. With no wrong. I earnestly pleaded with her for protection, yet she failed to take any action, stating merely that he wouldn't harm me because I was "no longer his type" as i was no longer the age of three. I was 11, my father confessed to his actions in front of my mother and others. Nobody came to my aid. During a particularly difficult Christmas, I attempted suicide, hoping to avoid spending the holiday with him. I communicated my intentions to my family, but no one sought help. In my desperation, I called emergency services myself. After a near-fatal incident, I was discharged from the hospital with assurances that I would be placed with a safe family, only to be returned to my father's home. In an attempt to escape, I entered a relationship with a man who was abusive; he offered me shelter but ultimately put my life at risk and began trafficking me. My family continues to act as though these events never occurred, treating my parents as if they are ordinary individuals. Today, I visited the hospital and learned that I require reconstructive surgery to address the traumatic injuries I sustained from the abuse. When I confronted my mother about her failure to seek help, she responded that she simply hadn’t looked closely enough. Despite her awareness of my situation, she left me with my abuser, justifying it with the belief that I was older and therefore less vulnerable. Last year, I received a video from my father in which he is seen abusing me with chloroform around the ages of 12 to 13, demonstrating the ongoing nature of his actions. I have refrained from pressing charges, largely because my family seems to prioritize their relationships with my parents, and I fear the emotional toll that a court battle would entail. I can no longer bear this burden. I have endured abuse, been made to feel insignificant and unworthy of love and safety, and have been wrongfully portrayed as the antagonist for not being able to accept and forgive. Why does the world work this way?
