Husband is a gambling addict
Family & Caregivers / by SallyForest

...See more Hi. My husband has been addicted to gambling for about 3 years now. It's come to the point where we are on the brink of bankruptcy. We have no way of paying our bills this month, which makes him all the more desperate to make more money. So he literally just sold a few things, gambled it away, and now has nothing again...and he still refuses to see it as a gambling addiction... I don't know what to do, my 2 daughters livelihood is at stake and he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again... how can I make him see that he needs help with his addiction when he just keeps justifying it?

...See more I would like to hear some second opinions on when do you call a behavioural pattern an addiction... Where do you draw the line between doing something unhealthy now and then and doing it regularly...? For example, someone would drink every second day, but not a lot and just to relax.. But then sometimes would go overboard and get angry drunk... But the majority of times they can hold their liquor... Thoughts?

Significant other has PTSD
Family & Caregivers / by SallyForest

...See more Hi. This is my first post. My S.O. has had PTSD for a very long time. I was bipolar for many years, so I have been very understanding and supportive throughout our relationship. The difference is that I seeked treatment through therapy and medication and overcame my mental illness. My S.O. hasn't and have always kicked against any form of treatment. I know PTSD is different from depression and I feel powerless when my S.O. struggles with the symptoms. Recent family disputes and circumstances have also made things much worse. How can I help someone with PTSD who wants to overcome it but doesn't want therapy or medication?
