Fear of Lightning

...See more The repetition of the strike doesn't negate its impact.  Whether or not lightning can strike twice is redundant when a single blow is enough to end a life.  In the past however, well... in antiquity perhaps.  There were many who saw each cruel strike as a swing of gods scythe. Divine retribution.  It makes you wonder, how much guilt must a man carry to fear the very sky that always looked over him.  At that point, is it even guilt? Does lightning strike or does it simply fall, slip from the clouds and grace the world awkwardly with its image? Only to retreat in shame the moment its destruction is noticed, like a clumsy child too new to the world to step through it cautiously. You can personify anything really. Yet we struggle to personify ourselves. As if life is too magical to truly accept as something we have. After all magic is simply technology that hasn't been understood. What is understood however, is that regardless of how often it strikes... Lightning does strike.  Without rhyme to the most skilled bard and without reason to the most acclaimed cleric. Lightning does strike.  Wherever it lands. We aren't very different from lightning are we?  Both on a path from the earth to the heavens or perhaps on a fall from grace. Depending on perspective. And within this school of a life we aren't guaranteed electives. All we know for certain. Is that we didn't have to be here.  Yet here we are. And whether or not we'll fall into another life is redundant. For the repetition of a life, does not negate its impact.  Next time you stare into the chaos of the storm and feel a flutter in your chest at the growl of thunder. Gaze into the dark gray cackles of lightning in the horizon behind the shadow of the void which is your sky. And promise yourself. To use every strike wisely.

...See more Was it the earth shaking... Could that be the cause of their missteps? Perhaps an improper tilt of the earth's axis? Better yet let's blame atlas.  If actions have consequences... Is accountability death by praxis? If we can blame the universe for our problems. Why stop at the gods? If atlas shrugged why shouldn't he nod? In acknowledgement to the weight of our flaws. Holding us down.  If you sink... Why wouldn't you drown? Yet life begs us to swim and take the dip, And reduce our life to a coin flip.  Say the glass is half empty. Should we even bother with a sip? Or choose to die of thirst,  While arguing about who has it worst. Cursed.  History tends to rhyme...  From time to time.  Some people will beg you to change their minds. But never their perspective. What is death,  if not change? Or is that too suggestive?  Let's be indirect then. What is the mind if not an extension of the ego? And if swimming is to coast on the proverbial water and all things which lack proper buoyancy must inevitably sink... What is an ego death if not a change in perspective?  Was that too suggestive? I'll be more direct then. It hurts... To say the truth, which is that I don't know. I just want to see them grow. But they seem trapped in stagnation. Their roots have grown dry because their leaves lack precipitation. If I know the rain can wash away their ignorance... Why wait on the gods? Why not bring them to the edge of the sea and perform my own baptism!  Would this not be akin to a parents love!? A father helping to guide a lost child to growth!? No. No, it's more akin to a bitter sibling.  Who lacks perspective.  What I see as a tree...  Is a person... Lost at sea. And the irony? Is that I'm a non believer. Who lacks faith in the one constant of life. Or perhaps I lack faith in change without a teacher? But they have long ago left their youth. To demand more maturity from them would make me their reaper.  Drowning in love,  Is still drowning.  It'd be easier if the earth was shaking. But it was just a misstep.  I've adjusted my gait,  In accordance to past mistakes. And now it's their turn.  But I cannot walk for them.

...See more It's all slipping through the threads. Life of a fabrication, Mornings filled with dread. Answers in a dream  For the question in your head. Yesterday's tomorrow and tomorrow never ends. What if death's an idea? A constant iteration, What if life's the panacea? Reorient the outcome  Towards the mysteries you seek. The solution of a life is a suspension of belief. Predisposition to the truth. Should there be a problem, If the answer's destitute? If I can't be the teller of a story never told, And life is just a memory, When do we grow old?
