I'm writing a comic book and I've been having writers block on what to do with a character. Hard to explain without explaining the entire lore of the story but I have a character who should be a side character who's doing to much narratively speaking. 

Maybe writing it out will fix my writers block. So I'll list a few things im trying to do in the story and why they conflict.

1. This is a superhero story. The main character is a woman who's trying to protect people who don't have powers from both super powered heroes and villains by building community. My side character is written to be introduced as a genius who helps her come up with a cure to make superpowered people lose their powers. His personality perfectly fits that of a super genius but not much else that I'm trying to do with him. 

2. His story arc centers around him becoming a hero and realizing he's not cut out for it then choosing to be a supporting background character of the main character. The superheroes operate alot like soldiers and police in my story so it doesn't make alot of sense for him to go from super genius doctor to cop lol. No matter how I outline that change it just doesn't feel right. So now I'm wondering if I should just pick one or maybe do a spin off. It feels like this version of him is a completely different character.

3. There needs to be a super genius to help with the cure for the main characters story, so if I do make these two separate characters the one who leans more towards superhero seems like they'd be pretty bland and temporary. The real issue I have too is that the super hero characters backstory of how he gained his power only makes sense if he interacts with someone who's the super genius or if he is the genius character lol. 

Alright now that I typed this all out what I'm honestly thinking is I might go the route if making him two different characters. One will just be a super genius and the other will be the superhero character who's in over his head. I'm not a big fan of this route tho because that means superhero character will basically just disappear from the story which is kinda sad but maybe that gives the story more impact. I also don't like this because It makes both characters a lot less interesting if I'm being honest lol. 

I did come up with another idea to make this character work without splitting them into two but it's based on a real world issue that might be too serious for such a goofy *** comic book. Idk I'll leave this here I might've fixed my writers block but if anyone reads this and wants to shoot me an idea feel free to message
