I work as a professional baker, and outside of work, I'm into comics, fantasy/sci-fi, K-pop, anime... you know, nerd stuff. I like to read non-fiction, mainly about female subjects, and I'm learning Korean.

Looking for support to finally quit for good
Alcohol & Drug Addiction Support / by ajennt13

...See more I've been drinking pretty excessively almost everyday for months now. I've tried quitting multiple times before, only to cave to my cravings, but I can't keep going like this. Alcohol is having a huge negative effect on my mood/mental wellness, my sleep, my body and my wallet. I think one reason I've struggled to get and stay sober is that I haven't told anyone in my life that I have a problem. I'm just too ashamed. But it's much easier to admit it to other people who are struggling with the same thing-- we're all here to get better, not to judge one another. I'd really love to build some kind of support system here so that I can move past this addiction and also help other people do the same thing.

Tips and Advice for Goal-Setting?
Depression Support / by ajennt13

...See more These days I've been feeling stuck and unaccomplished. I'm getting older and I feel like my life is going nowhere fast, and that makes me feel like a failure. I want to move forward, but I almost feel like I don't know which direction "forward" really is. I want to eventually leave my hometown, but I don't know where I want to go. I want to get a better paying job that feels like a step up the professional ladder, but I don't know where to look. I want a better, happier life, but I don't seem to know what will actually make that happen. I really believe I could succeed in changing my life for the better if I could only pinpoint the smaller, more specific steps it will take to do it. So my question is, do you have any strategies or tools that you've found useful for assessing these broad ambitions to identify and set specific, achievable goals?

New to 7 Cups and Happy to Meet You All :)

...See more Hi everyone! My name is Jenn. I've been living with depression and anxiety since the mid-2000s, and the severity of my symptoms has waxed and waned over the years. Recently, I've been struggling the most with loneliness and the pressure of growing older but not feeling like I'm moving forward. I'm quite introverted, so I often don't mind being alone, but I sometimes feel totally cut off from other people. I have very few people to talk to when I need or want to, and I'm afraid the longer I stay disconnected from others, the harder it's becoming for me to make the connections I want to make. I also just had a birthday, and since then, I've been feeling especially down about the state of my life. Like time is passing so quickly and I have nothing to show for it. I have an ok job in a field that I love, but I don't make enough money to live independently. I'm living at home after having tried to move away several times-- I don't want to spend the rest of my life in my hometown, but I just keep coming back because being away from the small support circle I have here has just been too hard and, as I previously mentioned, I have a lot of trouble making new friends. I feel like I'm failing but I don't know how to move forward in a way that will actually work out. I'm excited to be here as I've tried traditional therapy in the past with little success. I just haven't been able to find a therapist that I can connect with, and living in a small town, my options are pretty limited, so I signed up for 7 Cups with the hopes that I could find others (not necessarily professional therapists, of course) I might click with. Looking forward to sharing thoughts and feelings with you all, and helping each other progress!
