Anxiety & dissociation

...See more I've struggled with anxiety for most of my life and, as a result, I almost have two different personas: who I truly am in my mind, and who I am to other people. In reality, I'm extremely outgoing, loud, and extroverted, though anxiety has prevented me from showing this side of myself except to those I'm very comfortable with. To most people, I am quiet, shy, and reserved. This is not true at all. I feel such a disconnect between these two "personas." I look in the mirror and I feel like I don't recognize myself. The person that everyone knows me as, that's not me. I feel so conflicted between who I really am and who anxiety is forcing me to be. My mind feels so dissociated from my physical body. Does anyone else struggle with this problem? If so, how have you coped with it?

...See more It's difficult for me to be motivated in my academics. I'm not motivated at all. I don't care about my classes, about my grades, or getting into a good college. It all feels completely useless to me. The thing is, I also have an extreme fear of failure. But at this point, I don't really care. I used to be obsessed with getting perfect grades and being accepted into a prestigious college. Now, I don't study, my college apps are due soon but I'm not working on them, haven't been studying for standardized tests. I couldn't care less about graduating high school or getting into college. I have no motivation to even go to college anymore. I hardly care about anything at this point, let alone school.

...See more My sister said something hurtful to me a few months ago and for some reason, I can't stop thinking about it lately. We're both singers and we were auditioning for the same role. I shared with her my nervousness about not getting the part, and she said to me, "Do you really think you're gonna get it?" Next thing you know, my sister gets the part. She didn't say it with any maliciousness and I don't think she intended to be mean about it, but it still stung. I keep thinking about it now, especially since we both auditioned for a high-level singing program and she got in and I didn't. She didn't say anything this time, I think because I was so beat up about getting rejected, but still. I don't know why I'm so hung up on this when I really shouldn't be so upset over just a small comment made in passing. But I am and I guess I just needed to get my feelings out. I'm not going to talk with her over this because she'd get angry with me and I don't want to remind her of what she said. I just needed to get my feelings out.
