Slowly falling apart

...See more For many years I’ve been pretending to be someone who always knows what he’s doing, someone calm, confident, and in control. People around me often see me that way, and over time I learned how to play that role very well. The truth is that a lot of things in my life that look like achievements were not the result of confidence or certainty, but pure luck. I was often guessing, hoping things would work out, and when they did, I let people believe it was intentional. Slowly, that image became something I felt trapped in. The mask grew heavier, but taking it off started to feel impossible. At the same time, I spent years hiding and blocking my emotions, convincing myself that staying rational and unaffected was strength. I learned how to push everything down and keep going no matter what, and for a long time it worked, or at least it felt like it did. But blocking emotions doesn’t make them disappear, it just stores them somewhere deeper. Lately, keeping control has become harder. After years of suppressing everything, emotions are starting to come back in ways I can’t predict or control. Sometimes I find myself tearing up or crying in random moments without any clear reason or trigger. Other times I feel an intense urge to scream at the top of my lungs, to release all the tension I’m holding inside, but I always stop myself before it happens. I keep everything contained even when it feels like it’s overflowing. Sometimes that tension turns into sudden bursts of aggression, an urge to hit something, to release everything in one moment. I don’t act on it, but the pressure builds, spikes, and then suddenly drops. When it passes, what’s left isn’t relief, but shame and a deep sense of emptiness, like all that intensity collapsed inward and left me feeling small and exhausted. There are moments when I even question whether what I’m feeling is real or if I’m somehow making it up in my head. After so many years of ignoring my emotions, it’s hard to trust them or myself. I’ve also tried to change things in healthy ways by eating better, exercising more, and taking care of my body. For a short time it helped, and for a few weeks I genuinely felt a bit better, but then the feeling faded and I realized that while those things are important, they weren’t the root of the problem. Fixing my habits didn’t fix what was breaking inside. Because of the person I’ve been pretending to be for so long, I now find myself alone. I don’t really have anyone I can talk to honestly. I’m afraid to open up to people I already know because they see me as someone who can handle everything, someone strong and reliable, and I don’t know how to show them that behind this image I’m actually falling apart in silence. I tried to change this too by meeting new people, people who didn’t know me yet, hoping that starting from scratch would make it easier to be honest and to show up as my real self, but every time it ends the same way. It doesn’t take long before I fall back into the same patterns, the same pretending, the same small lies, as if I don’t know how to exist any other way. What scares me most is the feeling that I don’t really know who I am without this mask. I don’t know how much of me is real and how much was just coping, pretending, and luck, and I’m afraid that if the mask breaks completely, there will be nothing solid underneath. I’m not writing this for reassurance or quick solutions. I just want to be honest for once about what it’s like to live as someone you’re not for so long that it starts to affect how you feel, react, and even understand yourself

Does anyone else ever feel like this?

...See more I don’t have a better comparison, because I play games non-stop. It feels like in an online game: when I play medic, I do everything to save others. But when I fall, other medics just walk past my body, as if I weren’t even there. Even people I just helped ignore me. I just lie there, bleeding out, having darker and darker thoughts about myself, that I’m not worth saving, that nobody cares, that if I disappeared, no one would even notice. Sometimes it also feels like I’m just a ladder that everyone climbs to get higher. But no one ever checks if the ladder is still strong. They just take another one when it breaks. And when someone around me falls into the pit, they find me there offering a helping hand to climb over me, but no one ever asks why I’m there in the first place. Instead of feeling glad for them, I just go back to lying there, waiting to see if the next person will notice me, or just climb over me like always. For now I’m surrounded by people who don’t really know me, people I always try to help, but they don’t even know the real me. I’m scared that one day my state will get so bad that I’ll start thinking about giving up. All I’m really fighting for is to find that one person I can fully trust, who won’t let me run away, someone who will look past my mask and see the real me. Every day it feels like I’m racing against my own mind, wondering what will come first. My brain is my worst enemy, always overthinking everything. And when it gets too close for someone to see the real me, it just orders me to cut it off and run away. Because I’m scared that when it happens, it could be my end. And now I’m sitting here, surrounded by people yet feeling completely alone, staring at this text and wondering if I should share it or not.
