My ex broke up with me because of his mental health problems

...See more Ever since he broke up with me I've felt that the other half of me died. I've been feeling lonely and I'm not even alone. He said he want me by his side but he is having this guilt of making me suffer when I'm with him. He's depressed with his home environment. He just graduated bachelor's and would continue masteral but he failed the entrance on the university he wanted. This made him stay on his home and study for a year to retake the exam next year. And his parents are considering him as a failure making him drained and feeling depressed. Ever since I knew about that I would constantly assure him that I would always be here for him and he wouldn't be a burden to me. But his sickness is making him think otherwise, hence, considered to break up with me. I was feeling so bad for him that I respected his decision and I let him go. He was having some suicidal thoughts before the breakup and I'm too anxious since then till now if I should check up on him from time to time because I knew he shouldn't be alone at this point. His parents are Asian and don't give a fuck with mental health making him not considering getting into therapy. What should I do? Should I insist on being close to him? Should I give him space for some months? How many months? Help me please.
