How do I see trans people as who they are? (genuine) /tw

...See more Good evening. Not sure i'm in the right place but i got autoremoved by reddit 2 times so decided to try this. Please don't judge right away.  Here's my problem. I'm 17 (cishet, probably, lol) and trying to be supportive of LGBT+ and respect everyone. I recently met a trans guy who I thought was a girl at first but he told me soon enough for it to not be a problem. We're currently friends but not too close. I don't know how to say this in a way that doesn't sound like I'm an ***, i promise I'm not. It just doesn't sit right with me. In person and with everyone else I'm using his preferred pronouns and doing everything I can but it just feels like a shell, I still feel like I'm talking to a woman/tomboy (he's pre-hrt). I thought I could just ignore it but then I started watching a youtuber for some time and only a couple months later found out she was trans (she doesn't advertise it publicly) and now I see the cues that could lead me onto that realization (voice, lgbt-topics being encouraged to discuss, etc.) and it just feels weird now, i feel almost lied to, and also partially surprised and proud of the progress that allows for such passing. I don't want to make it a big deal but my brain just does it. I feel like it's playing pretend or something - a mask of reality... I know how bigoted this sounds and I despise that I feel this way but i have to let this emotion out... I tried to imagine the "roles reversed" scenario as if I felt as a different gender and it doesn't really help. I only feel frustrated that I (real) wouldn't see myself (role reversed, imagined trans) as who I (reversed) feel like. It's really weird and I feel like a bigot. How do I see trans people as their actual ('preferred') gender and ignore their sex assigned at birth? Genuine question
