Feeling lost — struggling with schizophrenia and an eating disorder while abroad
Eating Disorder Support / by leilainvirtnam

...See more Hi everyone, I’m not sure if this is the right place to post, but I really need to talk to someone. I’ve been living with schizophrenia for a while, and I think I also have an eating disorder. I don’t like my body or the way I look. Even though I know I’m not overweight, I can’t stop feeling like I need to lose weight. Lately, I’ve been walking between 28,000 and 40,000 steps a day to “burn off” what I eat, and sometimes I make myself vomit. I had stopped doing that for three months, and I was proud of myself. But since I left home to volunteer in Vietnam, it’s started again. I feel really lost and ashamed, and I don’t know what to do or how to stop this cycle. I just feel so tired of fighting with myself all the time.

Having trouble fitting in and feeling lonely during my volunteer program abroad

...See more Hi everyone, I’m a 30-year-old woman living with schizophrenia, currently on heavy medication. I’ve always found it hard to live a “normal” life, especially when it comes to finding and keeping a job. Since it was difficult for me to find work, I decided to do a volunteer program in Vietnam, hoping for a new start and a sense of purpose. However, here I’m surrounded mostly by very young people, and I find it hard to connect with anyone. I also feel like I’m not doing my job well, even though I’m trying really hard. I feel stuck, lonely, and discouraged. Do you think I should talk to my psychiatrist about possibly adding an antidepressant to my current schizophrenia treatment? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read or share their thoughts. 🙏
