...See more to start with, my mom is white my dad is native american. ive been raised by my mom, but my dad has still been apart of my life, just not as a parental figure, and it has been in varying degrees, as when i was younger he was still very involved to now im 15 and we arent really on speaking terms. as a child my mom always supported my and my siblings native culture. we went to classes from the tribe, we were in native club, went to ceremonies. but within the last 3 years my mom has used religion to shield her bigotry and white supremacy. at first i didnt realize what was happening, when she sat me and my siblings down and told us she was "afraid one day we would turn on and attack her" me and my siblings were confused and said why would we ever do that? to 3 years later she refuses to believe native americans are even a thing and that people who identify as native are evil. (yup actual things shes said) when i ask to go to tribal events she yells at me and if i speak back she takes my phone away, if i created something with cultural designs i have to say its simply design and not spiritual. this has effected my siblings and i in different ways. for me i just feel so hopeless, that ill never be able to reconnect with my tribe, especially since she has plans to unenroll us (unless i can change her mind before june). for my middle sibling it caused internal racism and self hatred and he now feels like he has to assimilate to whiteness. and for my youngest sibling he simply has no interest in learning about our ancesters. so in conclusion, im really struggling and wondering if anyone else out there can understand or has any advice.
