...See more My intention with this post isn't to call anyone out. I'm more than thankful for the existence of this community and the listeners putting time and effort into supporting people they'll most likely never meet - my teenage self included. It allowed me to share things I wasn't able to discuss with anyone in my personal life at the time. It comforted me when I felt completely alone and supported me when I had no one to turn to. It helped me accept myself and survive the times when living as myself didn't seem like a good enough option. It's what made me then join as a listener on here years ago - wanting to give back to this community that received me with open arms when I needed it.  That being said, now that I'm on the other side of the conversation, I am a bit let down. The listener I got connected with was rather nice. I felt comfortable enough to open up and share, be vulnerable with them. Then they went offline without a word. I know what it's like being a listener with a conversation going on with no end in sight, needing to leave - we all have stuff going on outside of this website, it's completely understandable. That particular listener joined just days ago, so I also understand they might still be learning how to navigate their role.  Please don't misunderstand me - of course, listeners aren't obligated to keep a conversation going, especially if they don't feel comfortable with the topic or the behavior of the member. However, if you need to leave, draw a boundary or simply want to end the chat, just say so! If you're having difficulties leading the conversation to its end, use the resources of the website, reach out to listener support for help and advice, instead of ghosting a member. People come on here looking for someone to listen to them. It's painful to have your request accepted, opening up to somebody, just to be left hanging afterwards. One bad experience doesn't speak for every listener here. I believe it doesn't even speak for this listener in particular, just their inexperience. What I hope this post achieves is prevent similar situations from happening to others. It's alright to make mistakes - as long as you learn from them and change for the better.
