Growing up in the closet and (childhood) emotional neglect

Hello, fellow LGBTQIA+ friends and allies! It's my first time posting on here, so please bear with me if I haven't categorized this topic correctly.

I'm interested in hearing about people's experiences growing up closeted: what effects/concequences do you recognize now as an adult? How did that experience shape you/change you for better or worse? How did it affect your relationships with parents/siblings/close family and friends? Do you notice any specific behaviors/tendencies within yourself that might be a result of growing up in the closet?

I've been reading on the topic of childhood emotional neglect and have noticed some similarities: in my opinion, growing up closeted can be classified as an "adverse childhood experience/ACE", since it meets some of the main criteria (mainly emotional neglect from caregivers, could also include verbal/physical abuse in the family/community).

I would be happy to learn about your opinions/experiences, if you feel comfortable sharing. Forgive me if my interpretation/classification is wrong/misinformed - I'm not a professional in any shape or form, nor do I claim to be. If there's anyone willing to educate me and the community on the topic - please, do share your knowledge.

Thanks in advance! Stay safe and take care. 😊
