Define Your Values
Goal
To identify and define your values.
What are Your Values?
To identify what your values are, ask yourself, “What do I want my life to be about?” and consider these domains:
- Marriage/couple/intimate relationship
- Parenting
- Extended family relationships/friendships
- Career/employment
- Education/training/personal growth
- Recreation/leisure
- Spirituality
- Health/physical well-being
Define Your Values Exercise
Instructions: Write down your specific values using the above domains as a guide. If you value marriage, for example, what is the specific value underlying that? Do you value being a good spouse? If you value your health, how can you break that value down even more? Do you value being able to be physically active? Spend some time defining your values. If you get stuck, go back to the question, “What do I want my life to be about?” You can also consider this question: “What do I want people to remember me by when I’m deceased?”
