Adult friendships
You would think as an adult I would have figured out how to navigate friendship. I haven't 😩 I know that I have an anxious attachment style and am pushing away my only friend (she's an avoidant). We have a rollercoaster relationship! I'd appreciate an advice on breaking the cycle or knowing when to let go of the relationship. TIA
@humorousHouse4862 I think I might be in the same boat. I keep pushing my coworker away. I am too afraid that things will go wrong.
@humorousHouse4862 Friendships actualy are harder in adulthood haha for various reasons, mostly cause you have to create time to spend together since you're no longer in an environment where you'll be forced to be around the same people everyday and be amiable. It's good that you know your attachment styles that way you can have more empathetic conversations. Maybe try and have an open conversation about your concerns with them?
And the best way to form connections (based on research i've been reading recently) (ps suggestion) is to just spend a lot of time with them consistently, make fun plans, switch between organising them, there's a lot of fun stuff to plan and do!
I hear ya all, it's so difficult to find new friends at this age. I had a great job I loved but after 25 years due to some bad trauma events I had to leave it. I had alot of ppl I worked with that I loved. Also, since covid it's been extra difficult to connect. I've been very lonely for the last year and a half, So recently I reached out to a trusted select few old co workers to re connect with. One is my hiker buddy, one is my shopping buddy, one is my go to theatre events, one is my go to lunch with occasionally buddy.
Due to this pretty severe trauma it's taken me awhile to pull myself together to be able to commit to friendships. ( I have CPTSD)
I find that these ladies are lonely too and looking for fun stuff to do with a friend. I just had to reach out, apparently they missed my presence at my old job.
This was a big step for me, rejection is hard for me.
I'm glad I had the guts to reach out because one friend is not enough, they cannot be available every other day they have other commitments.
I hope this helps.
Best ABB 💜
