50's Plus Check-in - World Voice Day - April 8-11 2019
WORLD VOICE DAY
World Voice Day which is April 16 this year is a global annual event dedicated to recognizing the boundless limits of the human voice. The mission is to share the excitement of the voice phenomenon with people, scientists, and other funding bodies.
The day revolves around contributions made by head and neck surgeons as well as other health professionals who encourage the youth and elderly alike to assess their vocal health and take action to maintain good voice habits. Frequently, something as familiar as our voice becomes easily overlooked. World Voice Day reminds us to protect this vital tool we rely upon daily, so it remains with us throughout our lives.
Our voice is the conduit of the human experience. Each one of us communicates in unique ways, and our voice allows that expression to be heard.
This observance is a chance to recognize the endless fields the human voice touches. Ranging from biology and physics, all the way to music and poetry, each field impacts each other. We celebrate our voices as something all cultures have in common, no matter our language.
HOW TO OBSERVE
This is the one day you dont have to feel awkward about singing aloud in public. Step outside, belt out your best yodel-ay-ee-hoo and let your voice be heard!
HISTORY
World Voice Day found its beginnings in 1999 as Brazilian National Voice Day. It became a rallying cause for speech-language pathologists, singing teachers and medical physicians who were a part of the Brazilian Society of Laryngology and Voice.
The day soon began to spread to Argentina and Portugal making it International Voice Day. By 2002, the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery officially recognized the celebration which earned it the title of World Voice Day.

This is so interesting and Im giving a different response than asked. Today I spent the day with friends and one of their children is around 3 yrs old. I feel very connected to him because he feels a lot. His speech has been slow to arrive so he doesnt have many words and sometimes they are hard to understand. All of the children in this family were taught some simple sign language, so its been fun learning to communicate. Anyway I really feel such a connection to this one and when it was time to leave I taught him how to make a heart shape with his two hands and told him that I loved him. I thanked him for his words and told him how excited I was to hear him today. He looked back at me so happy and nodded. I just think this is all so perfect for this day. I cant wait to hear more words from him, but in the meantime we understand each other.🎈

Communication and different styles is very important in our life. 3 year olds are fun at that age also since I remember mine talking and my husband couldn't understand what they where even saying even thou I could understand them. I know I taught my kids certain words to help in our communication also to get things across so I would know what they would like which really drove my husband crazy with our own little secret codes. I love the heart shape and meaning also which that is so awesome for you to teach him that.
I had a conversation with my wife yesterday, not really singing in the town square but a big step for me / us. Hoping it leads to more. Have a great day.
- How are you doing? I am doing really well today. Everything seems to be going my way. Highly unusual.
- What are some things that you use your voice for? SINGING! And talking, on occasion. I love to sing; rounds, children's songs, folk songs, folk rock and rock. I have been taking some music lessons this year, and people have noticed the changes in my voice. Clearer, louder, more in tune. I am now working with my GF, encouraging her to sing more. She seems to be responding well.
I just got this post. This place . Wow. Havent been getting notifications. Guess everyone here wants me to deal with something else. No.
