@SB805

The rough math on break ups is about a month of recovery per year of relationship HOWEVER everyone processes a break up differently. If you are the one who left, you'll probably move on quicker than if you are the one who was left behind.

The end of a relationship forces us to redefine ourselves and that is a confusing and sometimes scary thing. We're no longer part of a couple, we are our own person again and if we've been part of a couple for a long time, exactly who we are alone is totally new and a stranger to us.

This is a good time for personal exploration and to serach for or rediscover the things that you enjoy that may have been set aside. I am a big fan of journaling because writing can slow down the busy thoughts and explaining yourself (to yourself) can give you a little distance from the intensity of the feelings.

It's ok to grieve what you've lost but don't wallow for too long. Find some healthy distractions like pets or hobbies or new friends to help you move beyond the sorrow and find some light and happiness again. There will come a day when you realize you didn't cry or feel sad about the break up and you'll be surprised how soon that may be.
