Isolated

I am 49 years old and I feel so lonely and isolated. I currently care for my 80 year old Mother and I am starting to feel very resentful towards her. My whole life is consumed to the point where I have no friends outside of work, and I am so lonely and I have no time to date. I wish I had a significant other to lean on. I just want my life back. I love my mother but I feel like I am sacrificing myself and my health. I’ve gained a lot of weight, I now have high blood pressure, and I’m borderline diabetic. Not to mention depressed. I know this sounds horrible and I feel horrible for saying these things but it is honestly how I feel. Am I the only one?

No, you are not. I can relate. There is also the guilt of feeling this way. Being a primary caregiver is not easy. I wish you the very best.

Nicole, your not alone and it's soooo not easy. Give yourself props for doing the caregiving. I have 3 sibs and none of us are able to help our mom. She fell broke hip and has dementia and she bounced to hospital to rehab etc. We are lucky at the moment a family friend is caring for her but we are paying them to do it. It's an impossible situation to be sure. We reached out to hospital staff case managers for advice. But this isn't a permanent solution. In some areas there are volunteers who may be able to give you breaks so you can get out for a breather. If she belongs to a church ppl there might help you. Best of luck, your not alone, pls take care of yourself. ABB
