@Ladyofthesea458 Hello, am a newbie at this and being 50+. To help with my depression am learning to play the didgeridoo.
Do you live near the sea.
@Dyslexicman Hey there, that instrument seems intense and fun, how are you doing with learning how to play it? Is it hard to play? I watched a video on YouTube and it looks awesome. Music does help with depression. I do live by the sea, it's great. Thanks for sharing with us! 😁
@Ladyofthesea458 Easy to play difficult to master. but if you just want strange sounds and werid noises am your man.
But if you want to hear a hollow tube sound increderbil have a look at Adèle & Zalem on youtube.
I live by the sea as well.
That is terribly cool! What an accomplishment!@Dyslexicman
Hi everyone, new and used.
Birdlady, 57 yo F. Recovering from a very deep depression this past winter. Lost my job a year ago. Still searching for a new work "home", not just a place to collect a paycheck. Even the paycheck places are not as easy to find now that I am older.
I am isolated, both by circumstance and choice. I have neighbors that are good to me. And I have pets to fill that void as well as my internet friends here. I am a sober alkie, since 1994. Antidepressants made sobriety doable here.
So many outside projects planned for this weekend, but it is raining. Looking like it is time to find the nail clippers, and torture the cats! Just kidding. It is only their opinion that I torture them with nail trims.
@Chickadee123 - You made me laugh! Not because your situation is funny (I relate in a few ways!), but because even in the midst of it you joked about your fur-babies!
Thanks for posting. Seeing your post helps me know I'm not alone...
@Chickadee123 Hi! Thanks for sharing with us, I hear you on the weekend plans, raining here too so outdoors plans were canceled too. But hey I sat on the couch and cuddled my doggies and watched the rain and felt the cool air flowing through the windows, it was great. Hope you're doing well today! Take care!
@Ladyofthesea458
I pop in here now and then, not every day.
I only have internet on my cell phone. Glad I was good for some giggles. Laughing is good medicine!
Hi folks. I'm coming on here as a 59-year-old who is going through a divorce after 31 years of marriage. You know the old joke, "I've been married five wonderful years." The wife then says, "What? we've been married for thirty-one years!" Husband replies, "Yes, but only five were wonderful." That's where I am. Any other Grey Divorcees out there who can help me navigate this huge change in my life?
@Ladyofthesea458 Hi there!
I'm Steve (also answers to Bear) (he/him or they/them); 72 years old, retired (former programmer), married (42 years), two kids. I play guitar, write (including a blog and the occasional song), and sometimes cook. And care for my wife, who's severely mobility-limited and has been in and out of hospitals and nursing homes for most of this year.
I came here mainly for therapy; it isn't clear how that's going to work out but I figured it was worth a try.
@stressBear Hi! Thanks for sharing a bit about you...playing the guitar is something I have yet to learn......how have you been liking 7 cups so far? I hope you have felt welcomed here
@Ladyofthesea458 Thanks!
I'm still not sure about 7cups. It's fun, or maybe i should say addictive, but I can't tell yet just how much good I'm getting out of which parts. I think therapy will turn out to be useful, and I've gotten one good insight from it, but I don't know whether it will work out long-term. Much the same for listeners.
The thing I love about playing guitar is that you don't have to be particularly good at it in order to have fun, including singing with friends.
Hi there Lady! You guessed it, I'm new too. Crazy how we are all above 50 and in my head I can't be older than 22. Keep that last bit to yourself though. My cats are still under the delusion that I can run and pounce with them. Looking forward to this cups thing.

@Linnellal
Hi Linn! I understand completely about still feeling 22 in my head. I didn't notice any hill...
Hi Im Susie,
been on this site for a few days, have had some depression after loosing my dad and my oldest daughter moving a way with the grandkids and my younger daughter having fertility problems, which has made me low. Havent managed to find a listener my own age ( 59) who understands how I feel yet.
However, Im a fighter and trying to keep my head above water with sites such as these ,meditation , and walking my rescued Boxer dog.
I have got a good marriage tho my husband doesnt understand how I feel.
Sending healing hugs to all those feeling down today.
@mooboxer Hi! Hope you are enjoying the site so far, it does take a bit to find a listener that you feel comfortable with, don't give up on that. Those are great coping skills to have in your pocket too! Welcome to 7 cups!
Thanks for your kind thoughts, my aim is to try and keep my head above water and to try not to let myself get depressed by walking and keeping busy.
I realise that I dont have much control over what happens with my kids and its hard not to take it inward, at least Im fighting hard to keep my spirits up
hugs to you today xx
t@Ladyofthesea458
@mooboxer Hi! The site's demographics do seem to be slanted toward the young end; older folks didn't grow up with social media. (I'm 72)
That's an awful lot of stuff to have to deal with, and being depressed by it is a perfectly normal reaction. You should be worry if you weren't depressed.
@stressBear
Thanks again Bear, Ive had some problems posting but think Ive got it sorted, currently in a travelodge ( cheap hotel in the UK) en route home from seeing the grandkids and daughter. We are at Lemington Spa a lovely regency Spa town in the UK just for one night then back home to the Suffolk coast, home and the rescuedBoxer Dog Walter . Life feels good today, hope its good for you and your wife is ok todayxx @stressBear
@mooboxer
@mooboxer sounds like a good trip. (talk about posting problems!)
I'm doing more or less okay today, and it looks like the problems my wife was having with her knee are resolving, so that's even better.
Great news and st our ages it
@mooboxer wrote: "at our ages"
They say that if you haven't grown up by the time you're sixty, you don't have to.
Well a few months bago I dyed my hair Blue and I really loved it so I guess it
@mooboxer Thanks! She really does seem to be doing better, the last few weeks.
She's going to get her hair re-dyed purple next week.
