Hello I just joined this sub community, I have AuDHD.

Greetings everyone! I am a new active listener and diagnosed at 60 with ADHD and this year with autism as well. I'm 62 but not ancient LoL 🤣 with a lot of wisdom to sister. I've researched ADHD since diagnosed and my life made a lot more sense to me after. I take no meds, yet, so I'm here if there's anything you feel the need to chat about 👍🏼

@melodiemichelle63

hello I am 59 and was diagnosed about 20 years ago. I have tried just about every medication out there. Good luck there. Some worked but after a few years they stopped. Now I just manage with my tools and caffeine.

@melodiemichelle63 sometimes focusing is hard

@melodiemichelle63 my brain is fuzzy

@melodiemichelle63 could you please explain what are the challenges you face with Audhd?

@newALIENKING1166 — Navigating both ADHD and autism (often referred to as AuDHD) creates a unique set of daily hurdles, primarily caused by the brain's internal tug-of-war between needing stimulation and craving structure. [1, 2]

The most common struggles of this intersection include:
  • Conflicting Brain Needs: An internal battle between the ADHD desire for constant novelty and the autistic need for routine. You may impulsively start new projects, only to become frustrated when you abandon them, which clashes with the autistic desire for completion and order. [1, 2, 3]
Social Paradoxes: Social situations can feel like a foreign language. You may crave social interaction but get easily overstimulated and exhausted by it. Impulsivity from ADHD can make you interrupt or overshare, while autistic social anxiety causes you to overanalyze and replay every detail when you get home. [1, 2]Sensory Overwhelm & Underwhelm: Sensory processing is highly erratic. You may be highly sensitive to noise or bright lights (autism), yet simultaneously chase environmental stimulation, leading to burnout. [1, 2, 3, 4]Executive Dysfunction: Organization can feel like a messy desk. You may have a brilliant memory for highly specific details and past events, but chronically struggle to remember day-to-day tasks or appointmentsIt fuzzies my brain and scrambles it jumbles the thoughts to I'm sometimes paralyzed with words

@melodiemichelle63 ok, thanks for sharing that with me.

@melodiemichelle63 hello

Hi! Can I ask what lead to your diagnosis later in life? I am 47 and have suffered from what I thought was treatment resistant depression since I was about 16. My mood has recently been quite low, and I have felt worse than I have in years so I began speaking with a therapist again. She has suggested that I may actually have ADHD and perhaps Autustic traits and have been misdiagnosed for all these years. I have just started to look into this possibility but from what I am seeing I think it is quite possible. I am wondering what your experience has been like being diagnosed as an adult.
