How do you control oversharing and impulsive behavior?
👋 Hello!
I just found out I have ADHD! And now it makes sense why I always feel I can't control myself, and I end up oversharing myself. After I overthink it, and feel guilty.
So I was wondering what kind of strategies you use to work this trait?
Thank you so much.
@MindfullCat Hello! First of all, it's great that you have gained some clarity about yourself and your experiences by discovering that you have ADHD. Understanding the reasons behind certain behaviours can provide a sense of relief and help you navigate them more effectively.
When it comes to working with ADHD traits, there are various strategies you can try. Here are a few suggestions:
-
Education and self-awareness: Learn as much as you can about ADHD, its symptoms, and how it affects different aspects of your life. This knowledge will empower you to recognize patterns, understand your challenges better, and develop strategies to overcome them.
-
Time management and organization: Establish routines and create a structured environment to help manage your time and tasks effectively. Utilize tools like planners, calendars, or digital apps to stay organized, set reminders, and break down tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
-
Break tasks into chunks: Large tasks can be overwhelming for individuals with ADHD. Break them down into smaller, more manageable tasks, and tackle them one at a time. Celebrate your progress along the way to stay motivated.
-
Prioritization and focus: Identify the most important tasks or goals, and prioritize them accordingly. Minimize distractions by creating a conducive work environment, turning off notifications, or using apps that block websites or limit phone usage during designated work periods.
-
Utilize visual aids: Visual cues can be helpful in maintaining focus and remembering important information. Consider using colour-coded labels, sticky notes, or visual reminders to prompt specific actions or trigger memory.
Seek support and accountability: Inform trusted friends, family, or colleagues about your ADHD and the strategies you're implementing. They can provide support, understanding, and gentle reminders when needed. Consider joining support groups or seeking professional guidance from therapists or ADHD coaches who specialize in working with individuals with ADHD.
Remember that everyone's journey with ADHD is unique, and it may take time to find the strategies that work best for you. You're on the right track by seeking ways to work with your traits. Take care!
If you’re going to overshare with anyone then a therapist would be a more beneficial choice.
