Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria
Urgh why is this even a thing…does anyone else suffer so badly from this, as in it’s the worst symptom of your ADHD? It impacts me so badly, any feedback, slight, off hand comment, BOOM - day ruined. Rumonating non stop. Thinking about the worst case scenario for things that aren’t even a thing. Over and over again. It’s exhausting and debilitating and just not spoken about enough - it’s a proper mental disability in its own right. I hate it. Genuinely feel so isolated and alone when I’m “in it” because who really understands it apart from people who have ADHD 😪

I do struggle with this myself. It is very challenging. I have to do a lot of CBT-related work to manage it. It has helped me to seek reassurance from my close circle. Even if they're not the cause of the RSD flare at the time, it does feel comforting to just be reminded by them that I am worthy. Sending you lots of 🫂
It is something that effects me pretty much every day it really hard not to be effected by but got to start with Identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs that contribute to rejection sensitivity. What I like to do is Ill try to replace what the person said with a more positive response example my boss said the other day ( you need to be better at cleaning behind the doors ) I changed it to something like ( I need to be aware of my surroundings) witch make feel a little more positive about the situation ... Id also like to say this doesn't work for everyone but it works for me hopefully something will help you cuz rs really sucks and is hard to deal with when it seems to happen all day those day exhaust me 💖 hugs hopefully this helps a little
Man I am right there with you, I never realized how it effected me til I was diagnosed with ADHD and me and my wife found an apartment. Anytime we have conversation about anything serious the rejection will put me in a bad mood and the conversation doesn't go well, it leaves me unproductive because all I'm doing is thinking about what that rejection could have meant. It's definitely hard, you can go up to people for confirmation that your alright but then hey maybe I'm doing this too much lol. It's so frustrating so your definitely seen

I have this so bad it's crazy... I got criticized negatively at work recently because I got distracted, and the person had every right to be upset with me but I wish the situation was handled differently. I'm a bagger at a grocery store and baggers get to bring in carts from the parking lot in addition to bagging groceries for customers. On Thursday, my shift went mostly pretty well until I got about 20 minutes away from clocking out. While I was doing my best to make sure the carts were under control, I saw one of my favorite fire trucks pulling into the parking lot and got really excited because I'd been waiting for them all day... The firefighters buy groceries for the station since they stay overnight and when they leave, they honk for me! When the truck was leaving on Thursday, they gave me the horn and I got so excited I didn't see my manager standing there... I felt really embarrassed and ashamed of myself even though I tried really hard to not get distracted but my ADHD had other ideas... I'm also pretty sure that the reason I got 2 days knocked off my schedule is because I messed up... I just wish my manager could understand that I see the firefighters as customers too and customers always come first. Seeing the trucks also gives my brain a chance to take a break from focusing so hard because of my processing disorder. I'm not perfect but no one else is either. I hope the upcoming weeks will be better and I can bounce back from this mess... I just don't want to lose what I have with my friends because it's harder to watch them in my days off because I'm not at the store and the times they show often change.
