Consistency help
Hi i m new here, in this thread. I hv undiagnosed adhd. I can't do a job done, which needs 5 min. I was applying for a job. Bored after 5 minute. Did other things for half an hour, here and there. Not constant at all. How can i overcome this? I am so frustrated. I am falling behind because of this
Hi @blackswan404
Welcome to the forums :) I can really relate to the frustration of how difficult it is to stick with things before boredom sets in. I've started so many things and feel like I rarely get to the end of anything.
I can share a few things that I have found helpful but it's probably going to take some time for you to figure out what works best for you <3
- using a timer to create a sense of urgency with a task. If I only have ten minutes to do this in and I can literally hear the time ticking away it makes me go go go!
- i make a game out of it. Do the task in a creative way e.g. race someone else, try doing it with my non-dominant hand
- add some novelty to it. A shiny new pen to fill out forms, a new recipe to cook etc
- delegate everything you can to someone else who doesn't have ADHD and can easily do the task
- be super kind to myself and lower the expectations
I hope that helps. You can also reach out to a listener if you'd like to chat 1-1 :) You're definitely not alone with these feelings and I hope you find some solidarity in this community.
Take care,
🌟 Joy 🌟
Thank u so much, but i also have a kid. It’s lot harder for.me :(
Hi @blackswan404 ,
I understand, having a kid can impact on your time and energy levels hard. I hope you find some support and community here at 7 cups and outside, in the non-virtual world too. You deserve that.
Take care,

@blackswan404 hi there! 🤗
first off, I just want to say that it’s completely okay to feel frustrated with what you’re experiencing. many people with ADHD face similar challenges (myself included), and it’s important to know that you’re not alone in this. It can be really tough to stay focused, especially when tasks feel mundane or uninteresting. your feelings are valid, and it’s great that you’re reaching out to share your experience.
it’s all about finding what works best for you. be kind to yourself during this process, and celebrate the small victories along the way. you’ve got this! ❤️
