Please support me to become independent

I am a 37 year old man who suffers from severe adhd, although I never got diagnosed or treated. I have been living with my parents all my life and its unfortunate I was never taught how to cope with the real world. My parents believe that I am a spoiled brat and need to act like an adult, although the strange thing is that they don't actually give me the car to drive, to at least help with the payment of bills, get therapy, anything that would support me to become self sufficient so I do not become a burden. I know this may not appear to be disability but after years of stigma I am choosing to believe that adhd if left undiagnosed becomes a disability and it is actually recognised as one in some countries.

@nothingness88

🥺

Im sorry you weren't understood.

Supported and listened to.

There are a lot of misconceptions around ADHD.

We cannot live independently without being shown how.

Your worth is not tied to or determined by what others think .

Do small, manageable things daily to show your capabilities to your parents and boost your confidence 🥰

Wishing you all the best 💜💕

@nothingness88Thank you for sharing your experience. What you're describing is very real and valid. ADHD, especially when untreated, can significantly impact daily functioning and independence, and many people do indeed consider it a disability because it affects key areas of life like organization, focus, and emotional regulation. It's unfortunate that your parents don't seem to recognize or support your needs in a way that helps you grow towards independence. Seeking a formal diagnosis and treatment can be an important step, as it opens doors to accommodations and resources that can support you. Therapy, coaching, or medication can improve your ability to manage ADHD symptoms and build skills for adult life. It might also help to connect with local or online ADHD support groups where others share similar experiences and strategies. If you'd like, I can help you with steps to pursue diagnosis and treatment, or ways to have conversations with your parents about your needs. You're not alone, and there are paths forward to help you build the self-sufficiency you want.
