Reason and Logic or Just Excuses in Disguise? Am I Alone?

Hello!

I am 18F with ADHD and I get so frustrated if things to go to plan or if everything isn’t near perfect.

First, I feel like I can’t function if the area and atmosphere around me isn’t clean and calm. I often find myself struggling to pay attention for various periods of time because my house is so full and chaotic. In which I’ll typically end up pushing homework off until everyone is asleep so that I can focus, and even before then, I spend so much time making sure the room I’m going to study in is clean.

On that topic, I feel like I need often need changes in scenery in order to study. For example, if I studied in my room for a couple days, I might want to study in my office instead for a couple. A lot of the time it’s almost like I need to get out of the house and study elsewhere, like a cafe. Except my parents keep telling me that I’m just making excuses and that I’m wasting my time by wanted to study at a cafe. Except I genuinely feel like leaving that atmosphere and going somewhere where I have no other choice but to study really helps me.

I would like to know if anyone else can relate or has any advice or explanation? I understand maybe it’s a little bit of both, but it’s just a stubborn feeling inside of my chest that if I don’t study this way I can’t study at all.

@nerdynads

I think it's natural to want a quiet and clean and calm space to study.

Whatever works for you.

But yes, you might have to let go of a little bit of the control, when you don't have the perfect place.

In order to get the studying done.

I genuinely wish you well with your studies 💚😊
