The last couple months I've been doing therapy my therapist has been using internal family systems to help me with my trauma. Does anyone else have experience with internal family systems? I'd like to hear your stories. I can't find very many reviews on ifs. That isn't just a video on what it's about. So I'd like to hear real stories on your growth or your setbacks with it.

Hi @toughNest8606 :)

Good luck with your therapy! I'm pleased you've found a therapist you feel safe to try new therapeutic models with.

I'm happy to give you a little information about how I've used IFS with my therapist but obviously it might look very different for you and connect with you differently. It sounds like something your therapist thinks will help so engaging in the process with them and trusting how you're feeling is super important!

IFS has helped me understand what my brain and body is doing to try and protect me. It's helped me see how some parts of me are stuck in the past and I'm reacting from them/bringing them into my present situations. Being able to identify where a feeling or thought is coming from (which part) has helped me have more self compassion and I'm starting to talk and listen to different parts now.

I have a tendency to think my way out of things and rationalize everything and so working with parts has helped me tune into myself better and learn to listen properly.

Richard Schwartz has written books about IFS - I think he was the one who founded the IFS model - I can post some links if you'd like.

I wish you all the best on your therapy journey! Every one of us has a unique path to tread - I hope you find your feet :)
