Evaluations
The job I'm currently at does end of year reviews. I don't like them. My review last year was all right but because of the write-up, it made my overall performance look bad so I didn't get a raise. This year, the department manager wants to meet with everyone for an extra evaluation. Found out yesterday afternoon that mine will be today.
I don't see the point. First off, the department manager spends half her time at another office and when she's in my office, she's in meetings so she can't really give an objective evaluation--she has to base it on third party information (sort of like how my write-up happened). Secondly, I really don't have the time for an evaluation. I'm still behind but I know I have to go otherwise I'll be in trouble again. But, if I don't get the majority of my reports done before the holiday, I'll be in trouble for that.
And I still have the year-end evaluation to look forward to next month. And that's on top of leads criticizing me for everything I forget and never for anything I don't screw up on.
@Enthenia
I'm not sure how your performance evaluations work, but when we do our yearly evaluations, there is a place on the form the employee to write their comments. If this an option, at least your concerns will be documented. This can also be the time to voice your thoughts and concerns, and be heard, in an "official" capacity. Because this tactic can either work for you or against you, take some time to sit and really think about what you want to say and how to say it without coming across as a complainer. The assistant superintendent where I work has a saying. "If you come to me with problems, bring solutions". Bring solutions to your problems to the meeting. Things may not change, and they may not like or use your solutions but at least you were heard and they know you are trying to actually find a fix for things. Just my opinion.
@CyclingThroughLife well I had it wrong. It was more of a department evaluation and I did bring things up that I've mentiond three of four times before. I was noncommittal and I named no names but I don't think anything will be done. They weren't changed the last three times I mentioned them so why should now be any different?
I found out this morning from a coworker that the meetings were most likely brought about by her and concerns she had. I can't verify if that's true or not.
I just go in, do as much as I can in a day, and try not to get yelled at. No actual yelling but I think you comprehend what I mean.
This is the second major negative post I've seen about your workplace. It seems like it is designed to micromanage and disrespect and demoralize you without any accountability on their part.
Although I didnt see details on the write-up, at this point I dont think it matters. You've convinced me you wont be treated fairly there. I would frankly suggest looking for a new position because I think you and frankly most people wouldnt thrive there long term. You deserve better. Good luck!
@Consumer007 I would if I wasn't currently going through school. This job is the reason why I decided to try going back. Maybe I just expect too much.
If I invoked any unpleasantness on your end, I apologize.
Oh not at all. I just really hate hearing about abusive workplaces because I have suffered in them as well. It never pays to stay long term...
@Consumer007 After the whole Covid, thing and having my position of almost ten years elimated I was glad to get this job. However after what happened in 2022, I realized that I can't count on this corporation for a long-term engagement.
But, I knew I was lacking skills that would get me a better decision so I've decided to put up with it until I accomplish that.
They pay is decent. It's more than other jobs I've had. There's just more cons than pros and no place to really say anything about it.
