I need career advice. I want to do CS
Hi! I am apurva, and I am in 11th grade. I've been stressed since January of this year because I am preparing for one of the most competitive exams in the world: IIT JEE.
But One of my neighbours who went to Indian Institute of technology told me that employers don't look for grades, they look for skills. And he also said that good colleges don't really matter above a certain level.
Since I want to do, I just wanted to know what topics will be important for doing CS, so that I can focus on those

CONGRATZA on the opportunity and future.

I cannot directly speak of India but here in America, this
is a half truth.
In America, within my field we use the College and the Grade as a form of
ranking.
In example, if you have two people going for an Information Technology
position:
Candidate 1 – Bachelor of Science / Computer Information
Science – local College
Candidate 2 – Bachelor of Science / Computer Information Science – MIT
We would assume Candidate 2 would be higher qualified because the student went to MIT which has a higher standard of learning. But ALSO this candidate would require a higher salary\wage then Candidate 1.
In regards to grades, they would be used when two or more Candidates are from similar schools.
In my case, when an employer asked me why I should be hired
over another candidate? I always responded with my sales pitch Dean’s list,
attendance records, grades, clubs I belonged to, roles I had held, etc.
So when your neighbor informed you that they look at skills, the neighbor is
correct for get past step 1 of the employment process here in America. School
and Grades gets you past the next step.
