Sad and unemployed, with bad health

Hi. I´m a 23 years old soul who is having a hard time. I dropped out of college right in the beginning of this summer´s exam season. Despite studying something i thought i want, school was a huge struggle and a source of never ending stress. My performance wasn´t bad, but given my subject of studies being arts, it was very time consuming. I wanted to drop out multiple times before, but always pushed through, until just a day before my practical exam, i couldn´t take it anymore and had a total burn out breakdown and decided i´m done.

The plan was to find a job after i´m done with my summer travelling plans, and for a while all went good. I found a lovely job in a second hand store i love to shop at. Well. My luck has it, i was having a great time vibing with the team, but i got very dizzy at some point and felt like i will faint from bending a lot. It didn´t get better and the only way i could go home to lay down was by terminating the contract of the trial period, on the first day. I have a terrible health, am sick a lot in winter, having allergic asthma, triggered by blooming grass but smells as well, food allergies and an ED that make me struggle with food, resulting in me being underweight. I´m very weak and get tired pretty fast. My eyes are also prone to be very tired and are sensitive to light. All the tests that the doctors had run on me to this day came back picture perfect. Noone knows what is wrong with me. Regardless of this, I have a very limited option of work, since a job i need has to match my health requirements, and on the top of that, i´m in no way capable to work a full time right off the bat, so will need to go for a 20-30h a week instead of the normal 40, and raise it only if i can manage. I am stuck in trying to find a job ever since. I can´t chain apply to every workplace that is a match at once, since i need to have a reserve given the big chance things won´t work out for me. Well. That would be if anyone would even want me. But no. I keep getting ghosted or rejected. And i´m feeling very discouraged. I found a part time job opening yesterday, but it is a type primarily aimed at students. I had my hopes up for a moment, but then the lethargy set in. Why even try. Will just be rejected again. I´m worthless. And will soon need to choose between a job that will worsen my already not good health or stay in this state of uncertainity. I´m loosing hope. And being the naturally highly anxious person i am, every new application sent is a gigantic stress on me. I just don´t know what to do anymore.

I could use a little encouragement in these hard times. Thank you for taking the time to read about my mess of a life. It means a lot to me.

@sadcat13 Hi there, I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through such a challenging time. It takes a lot of strength to open up and share your struggles, and I appreciate your honesty. It sounds like you've been dealing with a lot, especially with your health issues and the difficulties you've faced at work.

Firstly, I want to acknowledge your courage in making the decision to prioritize your well-being by leaving a situation that was causing you so much stress. That's a brave and important step. It's completely valid to take the time you need to focus on your health and find a job that aligns with your limitations. Your well-being is the top priority.

I understand that the job search can be incredibly frustrating, especially when faced with rejection and uncertainty. It's important to remind yourself that your worth isn't defined by your current circumstances. Rejections are not a reflection of your value as a person. Sometimes, the right opportunity takes time to come along, and the process can be challenging.

I encourage you to be patient with yourself and take small steps. Focus on your strengths and what you can control. You've already shown resilience in the face of difficult situations, and that's commendable. Remember that asking for support from friends, family, or even professionals can be beneficial during tough times.

If you ever need someone to talk to or share your thoughts with, I'm here for you. Sending you positive vibes and wishing you the best as you navigate through these tough times.

@Mya000 awww. Thank you for your heartwarming words. I really needed to hear it. I´m trying my best. I have therapy. And i recently became a part of the smile spreader team as a way to keep polishing my skills and do something meaningful with my time. I´m also working a bit on some of my projects, but they take quite a while and task initiation is very hard for me (suspected adhd, working towards getting a diagnosis) but i´m doing my best. I will attempt to send a next application tomorrow, but i´m not having my hopes up. It´s just so easy to feel lost in life and become frustrated and hopeless when facing so much uncertainity. I never had to work cause my parents told me to focus on my studies. And later i had such a demanding school that i couldn´t work even if i tried without wrecking my health even more. Finding the first job like a college drop out with no experience and bad health sucks and i don´t wish it to anyone :(

@sadcat13 It's fantastic that you're proactive about your well-being by attending therapy and being a part of the smile spreader team — what a wonderful way to contribute positively while working on yourself!

I understand that the job search can be overwhelming, especially with the added challenges you're facing. Taking steps to send out applications and work on your projects despite the difficulties is impressive.

It's okay not to have your hopes up every time, each small effort you make is a step forward, and I believe that your dedication will lead to meaningful opportunities. If you ever need to share more or just want to chat, I'm here for you 💖

@Mya000 thank you, I will. I feel like a cold is sneaking around me, so praying hard for it to wait a little. No way I'm loosing this opportunity. Will update when I have some developments. For now having hot shower, food and tea, washed my hair to have warmth from hairdryer, and will head to bed now to sweat out all I can and not get sick this time. It is always important stuff I get sick right before. And there is no way I'm giving up thisone without a fight

@Consumer007 very well. I´m working there for a month now, altho just part time for seasonal help. We will see how long they need me for, but even if they won´t need me after january is over, i will have an experience i can already use and a very good reference from anyone who my future employer would like to ask for one. I am getting on very well with the collective, and right now i am being sent to different store locations too where i keep getting to know more people and networking a little. Also, i enjoy working with people a lot, and i had so many positive interactions with the customers. For the entire time working there i had like 3 people who were mean and that´s it. Rest was all very very sweet.

@sadcat13 awww honey I just came across this. With your ED do you think it might of caused low blood pressure, which would explain the dizzy spells. And mental health can cause lethargy. I'm glad you dropped out of college cause so many people on cups are at breaking point and won't give up. You know there's no time limit on learninh, you can try again later on in life, when your mental health is a bit better and ready. If you want to of course. I've never had to work. So I don't know what's best to say to help you there. But please don't give up on hope ❤❤ gives you a giant tiny hug ❤❤everything will be ok ❤

@Tinywhisper11 thank you 😊 don't worry I got a job. I found a part time one at a stationary store back in December that is perfect. My team is very nice and accomodating of my health issues and needs and I'm in turn very accommodating of them, helping as much as I can. I am pretty much their joker card at this point, as other part timers are available only in limited times and locations while I can take any day, any of our 3 locations and almost any time due to no other commitments. I am there since then and slowly expanding my tolerance window. Started with like 4h shifts on mind and rn I'm already considering upping on 7! (Currently working 6) If all goes well, they will soon be upping my contract to more hours. I started with a small one and will be upping to 80h a month, what is a 50% one compared to normal working time. I will still have a lot of time left, as counted to my normal hours, it should be like working half of the month, what is great.

Regarding college, yes. I see so many people struggle and not being able to manage it and they rather get their health destroyed then leave. I feel like in today's world, uni is not helping much, and In fact often holds people back, unless you want to go for a career like a doctor, lawyer or some science/research based where you just need the degree. I just felt I can't anymore and decided to take a step back. Best decision I ever made 😁 working on my own stuff now, my own pace, while I recover and mom even told me a few days ago that she loves how I'm returning to who I used to be before all *** in life went down (long story with lot of tws I will spare you of). She was so happy to see me run around the house being interested in things and chatting with her excitedly about all I did. So I believe I'm doing great 😊 old me is returning, goodbye zombie cat. I even did a depression test today and despite my anxiety being sky high due to a bit of a potential problem at work, I scored only 16% (minimal) for depression, the first time in my life. Lowest I ever got was always in the moderate range. So getting there slowly 😊
