How do I support my partner who is struggling with depression?

Any advice that you can offer right now will be helpful. I'm desperate. I want to let him know that I'm here for any kind of support that he needs but at the same time I don't want to be overbearing and make him feel uncomfortable. How do I support him while also giving him space? It doesn't help that we had a fight right around the time he realized he's going through a depressive episode and now we're broken up. But it's only been 2 days. I truly love him and I want to be there for him. Please help!

Just be there for him and make sure he knows your there. It's good to have someone to talk to that you trust.

It is hard being a partner and not being inside the other person's head. They make tons of relationship mistakes because they can't think straight. Those end up hurting you.

So first off know that caring for you is important too because it helps you care for him.

Next, being there is what he needs the most. Being able to share without judgment from you (even if he shares the same stuff again and again) is really helpful.

When I was really low, I would tell myself regularly that my partner didn't really want to hear about my issues and that I was dragging him down. He worked hard to convince me that wasn't the case by just being calm.

Asking really regularly "how is the day going" or texting "I am thinking of you" also helps. @Ginger08
